[Bug 214692] Re: scrolling in evolution or firefox (or others) create glitches on the window

2009-12-09 Thread Richard Lobb
I've just recently started using Ubuntu (version 9.10) and have been
having this problem. It makes dual monitor mode pretty much unusable
with Compiz turned on, at least in my work environment. Oddly, though, I
don't seem to have the same problem at home with the same laptop and an
almost identical second monitor. [Not completely sure about that,
though, as the problem doesn't seem to occur immediately after boot and
I don't use my laptop in that configuration at home very often.]

Following a suggestion in this thread, I just turned compiz off and the
problem immediately disappeared. Whether it stays away, however, remains
to be seen! Unlike some previous posters, I had the problem with all
modes of scrolling (scrollbar, arrow keys or mousewheel), not just with
the mousewheel, although it's worse with the mousewheel. And I think it
occurs in any application though its symptoms are a bit different
depending on the app.

I attach a zip of the two requested files plus the output from lspci.

I just turned compiz back on again, set the settings to default as you
asked, and the problem (after a while) is back with a vengeance. I can't
seem to get a screen dump, though -- any attempt to use the window dump
accessory or xwd causes an immediate redraw of the offending window,
which then looks fine. Just FYI -- may or may not be relevant -- I have
the impression that the issue is somehow timing related. In some cases
I've seen the torn-looking window then, perhaps half a second later,
have seen the bad bit get repainted OK. At other times the repaint
simply doesn't happen and the problem remains.

A fix would be great, but in the meantime I'll just run with Compiz off.

Incidentally, thanks for a great support operation. So far, at least,
I'm thrilled with the switch over to Ubuntu, running Windows, only when
I really have to, under Sun VirtualBox.

[Bug 214692] Re: scrolling in evolution or firefox (or others) create glitches on the window

2009-09-26 Thread Travis Watkins

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the
original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to
reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against
the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we
may be able to pass upstream for help.

[Bug 214692] Re: scrolling in evolution or firefox (or others) create glitches on the window

2009-05-07 Thread Scott Howard
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release (maybe live CD)?
Thanks in advance.

If it does, can you include the following files:
~/.xsession-errors
 /var/log/Xorg.0.log

and the output of lspci -vvnn.

Also try to see if the bug happens with the default settings. To get the
default settings, install "compiz-config-manager", launch it and then go
to "Preferences" (left bottom corner) and click on the "Reset to
defaults" button.

[Bug 214692] Re: scrolling in evolution or firefox (or others) create glitches on the window

2009-01-09 Thread Mike Phillips
I too am on a T61 and have seen this off and on. I seem to get it when
I resume from suspend. I upgraded the video drivers and compiz:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-96/+bug/178400

Performance is good, but the artifacts are horrible.

Mike

2008-12-18 Thread RollingFred
Beat me.
I've been dealing with this issue since Ubuntu 7.10 upgrading each time
hoping it would be fixed.
My Ubuntu 8.04 machine is my work machine, I'm developing on it everyday and
the glitch is annoying especially when doing demo.

I really hope it gets fixed soon...

Why is this low priority?

The issue still persists with IPP=1.

The "fix" for this is to set IPP=2 with nvidia-settings, but that casues
yet _another_ issue!

[Bug 214692] Re: scrolling in evolution or firefox (or others) create glitches on the window

2008-10-28 Thread RollingFred
Yes, still an issue. Since then, I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 and am up to date
with all the updates. I'm still suing the same config (nvidia proprietary,
envy, as twinview is working properly this way).
If I don't use compiz and the cube, everything is fine. As soon as the cube and
compiz are enable for effects, the artifacts appear.
If I would to do a screenshot, it would be the same as above. Thanks.
