[Bug 218165] Re: No sound on Acer Aspire 8920G with H.Heron 8.04 Beta x86_64 and Realtek ALC889 and Intel HDA 82801H

2012-04-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Patrick, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Hardy
(Desktop) reached EOL on May 12, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported
release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of
Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Tested on Ubuntu Keramic with Acer Aspire 6920-6141 and the sound works (Alsa

I had to unmute the in alsa mixer (this should be automatic) and tell pulse
that I have a 5.1 card. Now, the speakers works and the headphone sensor works
too (first time with this laptop! )

The only problem left is the mic is still not working...

[Bug 218165] Re: No sound on Acer Aspire 8920G with H.Heron 8.04 Beta x86_64 and Realtek ALC889 and Intel HDA 82801H

2009-03-19 Thread pedja_portugalac
Hi all

Since months we are trying to resolve sound problem on Acer Aspire 8920G
laptops. It's High Definition Audio, 5.1 Cinematic Surround - Tuba.
Other models with the same sound card have same problem.

Till now, we found only temporary solution witch enable two front
speakers but today I found good news for us. Apparantly, Alsa developers
together with Realtek has found solution in those latest driver (alsa-
driver-1.0.19-5.11) on 2009/3/6. I found this on the Realtek official
site. The only problem now is that I don't understand, very well, Ubuntu
install and configuration instuctions from Realtek team. So if someone
is able to get this 5.1 Surround work, please let us know with the step
by step how-to like we do it on Ubuntu Forum. Thanks in advance.

The new Alsa Realtek High Definition Audio Driver package is available
here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...?keyword=Linux

The install and configuration instructions I don't understand well are:

The source code copy from www.alsa-project.org. ver:3.3-4

[Bug 218165] Re: No sound on Acer Aspire 8920G with H.Heron 8.04 Beta x86_64 and Realtek ALC889 and Intel HDA 82801H

2009-03-19 Thread pedja_portugalac
Ok guys, after extracting LinuxPkg_5.11 and changed to that directory I didn't
fallow Ubuntu instructions and run install script like this:
$ sudo ./install
After that I rebooted ones and then run fallowing instruction on screen:
$ sudo alsaconf
Then:
$ alsamixer
And I put all first 5 columns to maximum level.

Then I downloaded 5.1 Surround Test File from:
http://www.lynnepublishing.com/surround/www_lynnemusic_com_surround_test.ac3

And all 5 speakers worked. I don't know if the TUBA technology worked as
well but you can trust me it was well strong volume. Played in Totem and
in svn Mplayer. I could clearly hear all 5 speaker one at the time.

Hope this can be useful for the others.

@Jojo

It work for me. Thank you very very s much.
I can hear music, great quality sounds, on integrated 5.1 speakers and my
headphones works too. I was around for few days installing new alsa from source
via scripts I found on forums and because of that I had to reinstall Ubuntu on
and on. But with this simple two lines added to alsa-base my nightmares are
over and goodbay f. Vista. Thanks ones again and I wish you Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year...

This is what I have done:

Install fresh Ubuntu 8.10
Update system and reboot
Install proprietary graphics driver for NVIDIA cards (177) and reboot
Open terminal and type:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Add this to the end:

# added by myself
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

Reboot and it works perfectly.

For me this bug is solved thanks Jojo.

Tested on Intrepid Alpha 6 with a Acer 6920g and the sound is not

The hda-verb workaround is not working either. The device

for the onboard speakers and mic, the external ones are working fine.

The headphone jack is not working. I can't mute all the speakers and get

and got nothing). The tuba always stay on as long as front is on and if
I turn front off the headphones are turned off too.

2008-08-13 Thread Attila Fülöp
There is a solution to get stereo working (at least on 6920G i can confirm this
works) here:
http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=852295
Though, setting the model to acer-aspire seems unnecessary, model=acer works
just as well.
You can then turn on/off the tuba by turning on/off the headphone switch,
very weird yes, but thats how it behaves for me..
Muting Front mutes the laptop speakers (including the tuba) so you can get
audio out through your attached speakers only.

What still doesn't work:
-Surround (connecting 5.1 speakers to the laptop)
-Microphone

I have the same problem with a ACER Aspire 6920.

I can't get alsa to work even by compiling the latest sources (Ubuntu
8.04 64bit) and I tried almost all model kernel options, with no
luck...

The only way to get sound out of the speaker is using OSS4, but
headphone detection does not work (must mute manually speakers), the
sound is not very loud and only 2 channels are detected... and it does
not automatically save mixer setting on reboot...

Anyone found more tweeks or workaround for these Alsa/OSS problems ?

I can confirm this works on my Acer 8920G in 8.04 32bit AND 64bit

Though the sound it a bit basic and quieter than it could be with full drivers.

Is anyone working on a proper fix to get all 5.1 speakers working in either

[Bug 218165] Re: No sound on Acer Aspire 8920G with H.Heron 8.04 Beta x86_64 and Realtek ALC889 and Intel HDA 82801H

2008-05-15 Thread Mike
I have an Acer Aspire 6920G and I am experiencing the same issue with
Ubuntu Hardy Heron amd64.

I tried the suggestion posted earlier, http://mailman.alsa-
project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2008-May/007653.html.

This did not yield positive results: the audio is still silent.

These are the steps I took:
1) sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
2) added new line options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire
3) sudo ./hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x15 SET_EAPD_BTLENABLE 2
4) restart

Any further help and ideas are greatly appreciated!

[Bug 218165] Re: No sound on Acer Aspire 8920G with H.Heron 8.04 Beta x86_64 and Realtek ALC889 and Intel HDA 82801H

2008-05-06 Thread warmcat
I have an Acer Aspire 8920g and Alsa's snd-hda-intel does not have a
model that works completely on it yet. However after some help on the
Alsa lists, I was able to get it working for stereo anyway on internal
speakers. See this post:

http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-
devel/2008-May/007653.html

This is on Fedora 9, but it is not a distro-specific issue (assuming
your distro builds the kernel with CONFIG_SND_HDA_HWDEP anyway,
otherwise you are into rebuilding alsa with that option as well as the
applet mentioned in the post above).

I'm not sure if the absence of sound stems from the same bug (given that
we don't have the same audio device).

:~$ cat /dev/sndstat
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.16 emulation code)
Kernel: Linux dell 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation

Card config:

Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Timers:
7: system timer

Mixers:

Furthermore, I was wrong in my earlier post. I need to type:

sudo alsa force-reload

(and not sudo alsa reload) at the beginning of the session to have the
sound.

2008-04-25 Thread Patrick
Now I am on the official Ubuntu 8.04 x86-64 (generic)
And I still have the same troubles
It sounds that the new LTS release has not solved the sound problem.
All the output I have are exactky the same than before, except :

:~$ cat /dev/sndstat
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.16 emulation code)
Kernel: Linux patrick-laptop2 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC

Config options: 0

Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation

Card config:
HDA Intel at 0xfc30 irq 22

Audio devices:
0: ALC883 Analog (DUPLEX)

Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Timers:
7: system timer

Mixers:
0: Realtek ALC889

What is strange again, is to see that Mixers are on this time (but no sound
out...), and this ALC883 Analog is coming back. My chipset is on ALC889 NOT
ALC883 !!

PS: I have the last release of alsa base , i.e. 16

I am very disappointed the new release has not solve this sound problem.

WHat should I do : come back to Micro$hit ?

please HELP(SAVE) US !!!

Patrick.

2008-04-19 Thread Lionel VICTOR
Hi,

Same problem here... (info below)... Updated from feisty to hardy RC...
Now snd-hda modules aren't working and I have no sound card detected at
all.

Of course they used to work like a charm, otherwise I wouldn't be
posting here !

My host is a dell laptop XPS M1710

- rt kernel do give sound... OK
- my old kernel (from feisty) has sound as well... OK
[however, a lot of things like my GPU are not usable anymore with those two
kernels... and I guess you definitely want to fix this bug because hda drivers
are somewhat popular and you can't afford to break them can you ?!]
