[Bug 219230] Re: Grub fails on server install

2008-04-21 Thread Colin Watson
Sorry, the beta CD images have been broken due to necessary changes in
the development archive since then (although it's still technically
possible to install them provided that you *don't* have a network
connection). We aren't going to fix this now - please use the release
candidate, which doesn't have this problem.

** Changed in: debian-installer (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Won't Fix

[Bug 219230] Re: Grub fails on server install

2008-04-21 Thread Michael Wisniewski
I downloaded the RC this-morning. The file I downloaded was...

ubuntu-8.04-rc-server-i386.iso

This installed absolutely fine without a single problem. The beta
version would stop when installing grub. But on the RC, this has been
fixed.

Thanks for your help!
Mike

2008-04-20 Thread Sergio Barjola
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
Could you attach /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman ? Thanks in advance.

[Bug 219230] Re: Grub fails on server install

2008-04-20 Thread ora726
FHi,

I have the same problem using both i386 and amd64 versions of the alternate
disk.
I found that it is still possible to select LILo as an alternative and continue
the installation without any further problem, so the problem is strictly with
GRUB.

Hope this help

Raymond

[Bug 219230] Re: Grub fails on server install

2008-04-20 Thread Mark Richardson
as I have put per the forum thread above
I have had similar issues. However with the RC AMD 64 Server install seems to
have finally installed after some work in rescue mode.

However with both the Beta and RC, my installs have not been clean
installs - i.e. they were installed as a new system but on a re-created
root partition onto an existing boxen running Hoary. I did re-format
the root partition though.

Possibility the re-format of an existing partition not working
correctly? As when I did this the install said - Overwriting existing
system files - which when with a re-format the partition should be blank
?

I just wanted to add that I tried this on the alternate install cd, and
I received the same message.
