[Bug 219786] Re: Hardy 64-bit RC ata frozen

2008-11-28 Thread LabThug
I recently separated with my wife. When I did, I placed the LG GGW-H10N
Blu-Ray writer in the machine I took with me (which is different than
the machine in this error). I noticed that this bug occurs when this
other machine boots with the drive connected. Maybe it's just this
hardware. Anyone know any parameters I can supply at boot time and/or
ways to work around this?

[Bug 219786] Re: Hardy 64-bit RC ata frozen

2008-10-26 Thread LabThug
I tried the RC for Intrepid on the same machine today. The results were
pretty much the same, except Intrepid kept looping through. Here's a
screenshot:

http://www.labthug.com/~adrian/IntrepidRC.JPG

It might help if I described the system hardware, so here it is:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 ( 2 x 2.66GHz - 1066FSB)
ASUS P5N-E SLI
Kingston Technology - 4GB - PC2-6400 (DDR2-800) (Dual Channel Kit)
eVGA geforce 8800Ultra 768MB 2.1GHz PCIe VGA Card
WD Raptor 74GB 1RPM SATA Hard Drive (Commercial Grade - Ultra High
Performance)
Echo Star 680 Watt Power Supply (Dual-Core Certified)
LG Electronics GGW-H10NI
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1800 MCE Combo ATSC/QAM/NTSC, PCIe x1
D-Link DWA-552 Xtreme N Wireless PCI Adapter

[Bug 219786] Re: Hardy 64-bit RC ata frozen

2008-09-30 Thread jafa
This looks to be a kernel bug in Hardy...

Hardy worked ok with my older 500GB SATA drives for about 4 months...
just upgraded to faster 1.5TB drives.

With the new drives Hardy would freeze for 20-30 seconds and report ata
frozen in the log each time. When watching a 1 hour TV show in mythtv
the problem would occur every 10-20 minutes. Same machine, same OS
install (disk copy to the new drives).

Disabling native command queuing did not fix the problem.

In frustration I installed a stock 2.6.26.1 kernel using the Ubuntu
config file. Problem solved!

Exact error message from the kernel log:

ata1.00: exception Emask 0x40 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x800 action 0x6 frozen

Yes, I did try the final release (amd64 and i386). The problem was the same.

Thanks,

Adrian
