[Bug 219866] Re: firefox crashes X on this web page
I've now tested several releases of the driver from nVidia's site and they all work (including 169.12). I'm going to attempt a local build of the restricted-modules package to see if that works as well. -- firefox crashes X on this web page https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 219866] Re: firefox crashes X on this web page
Hi, David. If you're finding that the 169.12 driver solves the problem of the aforementioned web pages causing X to crash, then I think you must be doing something I'm not. Doesn't the Ubuntu restricted driver manager install the 169.12 driver by default? It was the driver installed by the driver manager which made my system unstable. Thanks for your work on this issue. -- firefox crashes X on this web page https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 219866] Re: firefox crashes X on this web page
I have the same problem with the driver installed by the driver manager. However, a manual install of the same driver version (169.12) from nVidia's website is not having the same problem. I'm not sure what is different about the drivers from the restricted- modules package and the drivers from the website yet as I was unable to download the source package to perform a local build. I'll update when I know more. -- firefox crashes X on this web page https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 219866] Re: firefox crashes X on this web page
Driver version 173.08 from nVidia's website fixed the issue for me. I was using the 8.04 beta for quite some time and the problem started with the 169.12 version of the nvidia-glx-new package. -- firefox crashes X on this web page https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 219866] Re: firefox crashes X on this web page
I'm confused. If I search Nvidia's site using Google, I can find driver 173.08, but if I use their driver selector (http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us) or click on the list of linux drivers (http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html), the latest driver available is 169.12. Does that mean that 169.12 is the latest stable driver? Should I not be installing 173.08? Also, if I install the 173.08 driver manually, will it break the next time I upgrade my Ubuntu distribution? -- firefox crashes X on this web page https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 219866] Re: firefox crashes X on this web page
173.08 is a beta driver, install at your own risk. I have found it to be more stable than 169.12 on my system. Release notes and download are at: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_173.08.html I've uninstalled the nvidia-glx-new package to avoid conflicts caused by updates and the restricted driver manager trying to load the older drivers. If you install or update the nvidia-glx* packages or the kernel it will be broken. If there is an update to the ubuntu packages you should uninstall the nvidia driver (--uninstall command line option in the installer) and install the updated packages. When I get a chance I'm going to test several drivers from the archives and find out exactly which ones have problems. -- firefox crashes X on this web page https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can also confirm this is happening to me as well. I'm on Hardy, fully updated. Using Nvidia drivers from Envy (if that matters?) One thing I notice is that I have these same entries in my syslog: VMBlock warning: DentryOpRevalidate: invalid args from kernel I wonder if that's got something to do with it? I can confirm the reported behavior. I even got it on a Javadoc page with no flash content. There is no crash report generated in /var/crash. Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs, or upload (as an attachment) the crash report from /var/crash/. Also, please answer these questions: Which flash package do you have installed? Which Java package do you have installed? Which firefox extensions do you have installed?
