[Bug 228573] Re: gutsy to hardy - all fglrx drivers fail- low graphics
Bryce This bug is no longer an issue for me. The remedial action I noted earlier got me round the problem Since reporting the bug I have picked up linux 2-6-24-19 and have upgraded the ati driver to ati 8.9 ( xorg-driver-fglrx 8.532. ) I have full 3D, and the compiz unsupported value issue has gone. -- gutsy to hardy - all fglrx drivers fail- low graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[This is an automated message] As of Intrepid (8.10), we have a dedicated package 'fglrx-installer' for fglrx bugs, which now includes a process for upstreaming bugs to AMD. http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer To transition your bug into the new fglrx-package, we need your help. Please do the following: a. Verify the bug occurs in Intrepid. (Intrepid ISOs: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com) b. If you haven't already, please include in the bug: * Your /var/log/Xorg.0.log * The output of `lspci -vvnn` * Steps to reproduce the issue c. Click 'Also affects distribution' d. Set 'Source Package Name' to 'fglrx-installer' e. Click Continue Thank you. This will assist us in reviewing and upstreaming your fglrx bug, as appropriate. [Bug 228573] Re: gutsy to hardy - all fglrx drivers fail- low graphics
Hi rannsaicher, Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from cdimage.ubuntu.com) If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log? Thanks in advance. The output of lspci -vvnn would also be worth having. ** Changed in: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- gutsy to hardy - all fglrx drivers fail- low graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 228573] Re: gutsy to hardy - all fglrx drivers fail- low graphics
like what Albert Cardona wrote, i had this problem when i tried to reinstall my drivers after i already updated to hardy. Everything failed, the hardware manager, envy, everything. someone told me from this bug report that installing linux-restricted-modules would fix it, so i tried that, went back to hardware manager and clicked 'enable ati drivers' and then restarted, and it worked. -- gutsy to hardy - all fglrx drivers fail- low graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 228573] Re: gutsy to hardy - all fglrx drivers fail- low graphics
Same situation here, for both: * Thinkpad T60p with an ATI FireGL 5200 * desktop intel core 2 extreme with an ATI 512Mb that also uses fglrx No direct rendering when using gnome (glxinfo direct rendering: No) but I get proper direct rendering when not using gnome, but some other window manager that I start from .xinit with startx (after sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop). Puzzling.
I have solved the problem: in the upgrade from gutsy to hardy, for some reason the package linux-restricted-modules was NOT installed. So: sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop sudo modprobe -r fglrx sudo modprobe fglrx sudo /etc/init.d/gdm/start Finally, glxinfo reports: Direct rendering: Yes Just to be sure, my xorg.conf uses the fglrx driver and has also these sections: Section DRI Mode 0666 EndSection Section Extensions Option Composite true EndSection Hope that helps.

Thanks Corvar As you suggested, I installed the fglrx driver from the repository and ran aticonfig -- initial --force-monitor=crt1 The system rebooted fine, but for some reason the kernel module wasnt loading, however it didnt go back to low graphics mode. i then removed the repository packages and loaded the ati 8.476 drivers ( from the 8.4 ati driver installer ) On reboot the machine came up on the fglrx driver with 3D enabled. I am however unable to enable desktop effects. [Bug 228573] Re: gutsy to hardy - all fglrx drivers fail- low graphics
I had this problem on multiple machines, and it was fixable using the aticonfig --force-monitor= command. If you manually specify which ports should be used, everything starts working correctly. -- gutsy to hardy - all fglrx drivers fail- low graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
