I can not test it right now, but according to the description of the tool (which has been discontinued and is now replaced by touchfreeze) it should do what the subscriber and me would want. So it would be nice, if this would be packaged for the next release. I will test as soon as possible. Thanks for your bug. There is the Synaptics TouchPad util which seems very similar to what you require. In Ubuntu, install gsynaptics. In Kubuntu, ksynaptics. You should find you can then add the applet to your panel.
