[Bug 25105] Re: incorrect test page printing with SAMSUNG ML1210

2009-03-15 Thread Gerv
I have a Samsung ML-1210 and am _still_ getting this problem in
Intrepid. In fact, it was a factor in my getting lost on Saturday
(couldn't read the directions). Changing the halftoning algorithm to
Standard sorted it out, which is great, but _please_ can you fix the
problem for all the people who haven't got the skill and patience to
find this bug report?

Thanks :-)

Gerv

[Bug 25105] Re: incorrect test page printing with SAMSUNG ML1210

2009-03-15 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have checked the PPD file which comes with Jaunty and there the
default value for the halftoning algorithm is Standard. In addition,
Jaunty updates the PPDs for existing print queues when updating the
appropriate packages. So everyone installing Jaunty or updating to
Jaunty should have his ML-1210 working out-of-the-box.

AFAIR Hardy's and Intrepid's PPD should also have the halftoning
algorithm defaulting to Standard.

So the problem is fixed in Hardy and later.

Standard was always the intended default upstream. I have found a bug
in the upstream foomatic-db now which caused some drivers to default to
Accurate. This I have fixed now upstream and it will go into Hardy
with the updated foomatic-db package.

Gutsy has the same problem with the Accurate halftoning on my ML-1430.
Standard halftoning works, at least on the test page I printed.
Unfortunately, Accurate (the broken setting) was the default when I
installed.

If you have access to Gutsy (at least a live CD) try whether the problem
simply goes away in Gutsy. Gutsy uses the new Ghostscript and (at least
for not too old Samsung lasers: 1610, 1710, not 1210) uses the new SpliX
driver.

2007-09-03 Thread Yubs
I found this bug report while looking to see if others have had problems
with their Samsung ML-1710, and I can confirm it affects this model as
well. I am using Feisty and the Samsung driver.

Till Kamppeter - I stumbled upon this solution during my troubleshooting when
I noticed it only affected color images in which the colors changed along the
horizontal direction (I was trying to print a google map at the time).
When set to Accurate, it seems that the darkest half-toned pixel in a row
gets applied to other pixels in the row (though roads in the map I was printing
seem to define cut off regions, but not if vertical).

I don't have time to try the fix you suggested at the moment, but if
this is still an unresolved issue, I will give it a shot later.

Let me know if you still need to see if this will fix the issue.

[Bug 25105] Re: incorrect test page printing with SAMSUNG ML1210

2007-05-22 Thread Till Kamppeter

I have uploaded new test packages (after working out a common concept
with Debian's Ghostscript maintainer):

For Gutsy download all packages from

http://www.linux-
foundation.org/~till/tmp/ubuntu/gutsy/ghostscript/binary/

and do

sudo dpkg -i *gs-esp*.deb *gs-afpl*.deb *gs-gpl*.deb *libgs*.deb
*ghostscript*.deb

to replace your ESP and/or AFPL Ghostscript by the new merged GPL
Ghostscript.

If you are running Feisty or older download the files from

http://www.linux-foundation.org/~till/tmp/ubuntu/gutsy/ghostscript/

into the same directory. Then do

sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get build-dep gs-esp gs-gpl
dpkg-source -x ghostscript_8.60.dfsg.1-0ubuntu1.dsc
cd ghostscript-8.60.dfsg.1
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i *gs-esp*.deb *gs-afpl*.deb *gs-gpl*.deb *libgs*.deb
*ghostscript*.deb

Answer every question which appears with y, so that all needed
packages get installed.

Please tell us your results with the test packages.

This would only work if you have compatibility libraries for 32-bit
software installed. Otherwise rebuild the package from source as
follows:

Download the files from

http://www.openprinting.org/download/printing/esp-gpl-ghostscript-merge/

into the same directory. Then do

sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get build-dep gs-esp gs-gpl
dpkg-source -x gs-gpl_8.60.dfsg.1-0ubuntu1.dsc
cd gs-gpl-8.60.dfsg.1
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i *gs-esp*.deb *gs-gpl*.deb

Answer every question which appears with y, so that all needed packages get

Or try the distribution-independent package from

[Bug 25105] Re: incorrect test page printing with SAMSUNG ML1210 (on breezy)

2007-04-24 Thread Hendrik van den Boogaard
The attachment (A working ML-1430 PPD (from Fedora Core 3) from a few
posts above seems to solve the bar problem on Feisty Fawn (AMD64) for me
as well!

First I gunzipped the driver from the attachment in /tmp. Then I
installed a new printer, choose the option 'Install Driver'. There I
pointed to /tmp/Samsung-ML-1430-gdi.ppd although I have a Samsung
ML-1210 printer. The printer now prints the test page just fine! I tried
installing some Dapper components earlier but this did not seem to work,
however I'm not 100% sure that there are no older components somewhere
in the system now that cooperates with this Samsung driver. Anyway, it
seems like a specific Ubuntu issue and should be solvable.

[Bug 25105] Re: incorrect test page printing with SAMSUNG ML1210 (on breezy)

2007-03-31 Thread Hendrik van den Boogaard
On Feisty [amd64] this problem is still there. I have a Samsung ML1210
which worked perfectly fine under Dapper. I skipped Edgy and I am now
also noticing the same bar on the test page as well as faulty printed
images when I tried to print those on my clean Feisty install!

However I have not installed the foomatic-filters-ppds package, so the
error seems to be somewhere else. Trying to install the Dapper
footmatic-filter-ppds (as on Dapper printing is fine) does not solve the
problem (since I was not using foomatic filters before?).

I will further investigate this later on, and try to replace some
packages with older packages from Dapper. If I can be of any help, or
try things for the bug hunting team, I'd like to do so.

(I've already noticed 4 more annoying bugs of things that worked fine in
Dapper and do not work in Feisty anymore ;( and I'd really like to get
those resolved before Feisty is released)

[Bug 25105] Re: incorrect test page printing with SAMSUNG ML1210 (on breezy)

2006-11-14 Thread Rami Autiomäki
Here Kubuntu Edgy, Samsung ML-1510
tested also in Kubuntu Dapper

Cups test page prints fine, but pictures print out corrupted. With Samsung
closed source driver even large pictures print fine.
There seems to be some other glitch in Samsung PPD that makes test page to
print too left and too up when printing in A4-size. So cups test page is
missing left and top border. Closed source driver prints test page centered.
I fixed this with alignmargins tool, but it would be nice if this was fixed in
PPD.

I still see the same issues in Dapper, and the same fix (copying over a

I'll experiment when I have time to see if any particular settings fix
the problem or make it worse on my Dapper machine - though the
corruption does show up with the default settings.
