Public bug reported:

When an installation of Hardy with 2 correctly matching drives holding a raid 1 
(mirroring) set is booted with an USB stick connected, some bios will assign to 
the USB stick a device name like sdb that normally would be assigned to one of 
the sata drives.
In such cases mdadm reproducably generates a segfault with the following error 
message:

"mdadm[2691] segfault at 4 eip 61751 esp bfab4e90 error 4"

The whole booting process must be analyzed taking into consideration all
possible combinations of degraded arrays or changing hardware
configurations like aditional or missing drives, usb sticks etc. and the
booting sequence including udev rules need thorough rework.
