[Bug 254344] Re: iwl4965 broken in backports-modules 2.6.24-20.21 ucode not loadiing
My Dell XPS 1210 with 3945 wireless gets the kernel panic as well. I've got 2.6.24.20.22 -- iwl4965 broken in backports-modules 2.6.24-20.21 ucode not loadiing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254344 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 254344] Re: iwl4965 broken in backports-modules 2.6.24-20.21 ucode not loadiing
just to be clear, the kernel panics I see are in the 2.6.24.20.23 package version the compatwireless upstream from http://intellinuxwireless.org/ is also giving the same problem (2007-07-30 and 2008-08-06 snapshots). I didn't get much acknowledgement of this problem from compatwireless mailing list, although someone else on 2.6.25 kernel from a different distribution has the same problem. Conclusion: Don't let this module go into hardy-updates. I suggest any further testing is done on an Intel Centrino laptop before even putting it into proposed. It breaks on suspend/hibernate and rmmod -- iwl4965 broken in backports-modules 2.6.24-20.21 ucode not loadiing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254344 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I suppose that if you remove the backports module, then it works in Hardy? re the bug with the backports module, probably a new firmware version is required to be added to the patch. http://intellinuxwireless.org/?n=Downloads -- iwl4965 broken in backports-modules 2.6.24-20.21 ucode not loadiing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254344 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 254344] Re: iwl4965 broken in backports-modules 2.6.24-20.21 ucode not loadiing
Here is the fix: 1. Download from http://intellinuxwireless.org/?n=Downloads the 7/7/2008 firmware 2. From the archive, extract the file iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode to /tmp 3. sudo cp /tmp/iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode /lib/firmware/2.6.24-20-generic 4. Now, the backports module will work (I was lazy so did a reboot) -- iwl4965 broken in backports-modules 2.6.24-20.21 ucode not loadiing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254344 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I was asked in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/251252 to do sudo iwlist wlan0 scan output is wlan0Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down The wifi is enabled. To get this bug, I simply install the new backports module and reboot. To restore wifi, I simply remove the module, and reboot. lsmod | grep iwl shows the the module is loaded. sudo rmmod iwl4965 locks my machine (flashing capslock). -- iwl4965 broken in backports-modules 2.6.24-20.21 ucode not loadiing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254344 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
