This also is the case under Intrepid Ibex. Switching the sound server
to audio doesn't help - in fact, there's no sound at all. Uninstalling
pulseaudio and installing esd didn't work for me.

2008-09-27 Thread Jeenu V
I installed the plug-in and other media can now co-exist with streamed flash
media. However, post install, I notice that Firefox has become more unstable
than it was, occasionally crashing when stream flash videos.

Status in pulseaudio source package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

 Bug description:
When a flash video is being streamed in Firefox, I can't play any other
media on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. Mplayer video seems non-progressing and Amarok
player just hangs, until the page containing the video is close in Firefox.

At times there were instances where, Pidgin messenger tried to alert
incoming message, and later the whole sound froze. I could restore the sound
only after restarting the X (I don't know how to restart the sound driver
alone). After this freezing happens (of course after the flash video page is
closed in Firefox), mplayer plays back only video without any audio; and
Amarok player displays a dialog saying it couldn't initialize any sound
 drivers.

Other people are also facing the same issue. There's a thread in Ubuntu
forums, to which none has replied yet:

Thanks for the response, when attaching logs as requested by the triager
please attach each file as an individual attachment to your bug report
by using the Add a comment/attachment for every file as it helps to
view the files easily.

In addition have you installed flashplugin-nonfree from multiverse
repository? This plugin is known to be an issue with pulseaudio.

Can you also check System Preferences Sound and ensure it is ALSA
for your Music and Videos option? If it is not ALSA but PulseAudio, then
the bug needs to be reassigned appropriately. Thanks in advance :)

Sorry, I didn't know this. I'll take care of this in future.

Yes. This plug-in came by default with the Ubuntu installation.

I had modified those fields so that pulse audio is used for every item
present there; I can't recall what all were there before my change. Are you
suggesting that I use ALSA instead of PulseAudio? After I received this
mail, I switched everything to ALSA back.

Thanks
Jeenu

[Bug 254405] Re: No media works when a flash video is being streamed in Firefox. Some times audio freezes afer streaming is finshed

2008-08-10 Thread Parthan
Thanks for the reply.

For your kind information, flashplugin-nonfree come as a part of ubuntu-
restricted-extras which is not installed by default as this is a non-
free plugin. When you try to play a media which requires non-free
plugin, you are intimated of the same and you may wish to install it or
not as per your choice. If you agree to get this non-free plugin
installed, it installs the plugin for you.

Yes, Pulseaudio is known to have problems when the flashplugin-nonfree
is also installed. Hence the general suggestion is to use ALSA or ESD
as the sound server. What we would like to confirm is, when you filed
this bug where you using Pulseaudio or ALSA? Can you also confirm that
the bug doesn't occur when ALSA is chosen? Thanks in advance.

Re: [Bug 254405] Re: No media works when a flash video is being streamed in Firefox. Some times audio freezes afer streaming is finshed

2008-08-10 Thread Jeenu V
To be honest, I don't remember whether I installed the Flash plug-in
separately. All I remember is that I didn't explicitly ask to install it --
probably it got included when I selected some other ones to install.
Nevertheless, I think, that doesn't matter now.

I think I was using ALSA when I first discovered the problem, and then
searched around for restarting the sound driver alone. This brought me to
PulseAudio and I chose PulseAudio since then (for no obvious reasons
though).

Now, I changed everything to ALSA, as you suggested. I opened a YouTube site
with a flash media streaming. Meanwhile, I tried to playback a video with
mplayer. I found that the mplayer video was frozen, until I close the
firefox page with the YouTube video! To repeat, I'm using ALSA this time
(but neither logged out nor restarted the laptop after I changed the sound
settings) .

Let me know if I can provide you more details.

Thanks
Jeenu

If you are having issues on a hardy box. the package causing the issue
would be the flash plugin since it is the one that does not play nice
