[Bug 256620] Re: Please sync user-mode-linux 2.6.26-1um-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2010-02-12 Thread Loïc Minier
Note that user-mode-linux currently fails to build under Ubuntu due to
lack of suitable build-dep (linux-source-2.6.22!).

I checked the Ubuntu changelog, and it mentions changes (such as
dropping a patch from upstream or fixing a struct) to fix build with
newer kernels, and adding amd64 to the arch list. The new Debian
version has amd64 in the arch list and built at least once with newer
2.6.32 (it build-deps on linux-source-2.6.32 and built in Debian and we
have linux-source-2.6.32 in Ubuntu).

So after some research, I think this sync is fine; sub-ing ubuntu-
releases.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

- Debian has rebuilt its package and have incorporated several patches and
- cleaned up unused patches. So ubuntu changes can be dropped.
-
+ Debian has rebuilt its package against new kernel and have incorporated
several patches and cleaned up patches like
patches/04_include_PAGESHIFT_definition and have removed aio_reserved3
reference and have applied some more patches in new version. So ubuntu changes
can be dropped.

The diff just in the debian/ directories is pretty big. Can you please
give a more detailed analysis why all the Ubuntu changes can be dropped?
