[Bug 267956] Re: Python 2.5.2-2ubuntu4.1 causes regression in KDE-Guidance

2008-09-17 Thread Andreas Wenning
Probably it was simply a matter of solving the dependencies which
aptitude has much more advanced features of doing.

It might also be that one of the updated packages was uploaded (or
synced to your local mirror) earlier than one of the others resulting in
the dependency being unresolvable until the other package was uploaded.

Can you try installing kde-guidance using aptitude instead? It has a
more advanced dependency resolver and gives some more info about it.

Re: [Bug 267956] Re: Python 2.5.2-2ubuntu4.1 causes regression in KDE-Guidance

2008-09-14 Thread Snarkster
well i can try to install kde-guidance again thats about the only way i
know how to do it.
Let me check and see..

Nope not working:
sudo apt-get install kde-guidance
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kde-guidance: Depends: libpythonize0 but it is not going to be
installed
E: Broken packages

Hi again,
Here are your requested policy outputs:
python2.5:
  Installed: 2.5.2-2ubuntu4.1
  Candidate: 2.5.2-2ubuntu4.1
  Version table:
 *** 2.5.2-2ubuntu4.1 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.5.2-2ubuntu4 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages
libpythonize0:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 0.4.0-5ubuntu3
  Version table:
 0.4.0-5ubuntu3 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages

I do not have have aptitude installed it kept crashing on me so I
removed it and just use apt now. If you want me to install it and give
you the output I will. Well since your already asking for it Ill
install it and give you another email with that information.

Hi.

>From what I can see libpythonize0 (0.4.0-5ubuntu3) depends on python2.5
(>= 2.5), which should make it installable. Can you try start a update
using "sudo aptitude full-upgrade"; if there is a dependency problem it
should "error out"/give you some options to solve it with a description
of the specific problem. You can just say quit after the first option
has been presented; but please attach the complete output from the run.

Also these two outputs could be helpful:
apt-cache policy python2.5
apt-cache policy libpythonize0
