This is no longer an issue for me - I'm now on Karmic and don't seem to
get these crashes (and haven't since at least Jaunty)

[Bug 270800] Re: suspend fails when wireless enabled

2009-07-27 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Just want to try to keep this report up to date. Care to test and
confirm this issue remains with the latest development release of Ubuntu
(ie Karmic). ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . You should be able to test suspend
using a LiveCD if you didn't want to install/upgrade just yet. Please
let us know your results. Thanks.

which contains a 2.6.27 based kernel? Please let us know. Thanks.

This is taking a while as I'm not getting the suspend crashes. However I
did run memtest and it had no errors. I'm now on 2.6.24-19.41 so not
sure if anything changed there.

2008-09-23 Thread Chris Coulson
2.6.24-19.41 is an old Hardy kernel. It would be great if you could try
to recreate it using the latest Hardy kernel (2.6.24-21)

Thanks in advance

[Bug 270800] Re: suspend fails when wireless enabled

2008-09-16 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.
This doesn't seem like a bug in gnome-power-manager. Because there seems
to be an Oops, I'm reassigning it to the kernel.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report.
3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.
4. Please attach your /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/kern.log.old files to this
bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

Cool, done and I'll attach them:
uname -a:

dmesg.log, lspci-vvnn.log, and kern.log attached
kern.log.0 1 2 3 4 exist at about 800kb each - I'll attach one but let me know
if you want more.

[Bug 270800] Re: suspend fails when wireless enabled

2008-09-16 Thread Chris Coulson
Thanks for your quick response.

Could you please try running with the backported modules package (if
you're not already), by installing linux-backports-modules-hardy from
the repository. This package has a newer driver for your wireless card.
Once you've tried this, could you state whether you still have the
problem.

If you're already running the backported modules package, could you
please try the opposite (running without). To do this, you will need to
uninstall the following packages:

linux-backports-modules-hardy
linux-backports-modules-hardy-generic
linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-19-generic

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 270800] Re: suspend fails when wireless enabled

2008-09-16 Thread David Fraser
I've been trying to reproduce this crash and haven't managed in about
three or four tries on each of the generic and server kernels. It was
sporadic and so this doesn't necessarily mean it's gone. I have upgraded
gnome-power-manager to the test version from 242713 but don't know if
that's related.

I did get a soft lockup on one resume - should I report this separately?:
[ 0.943999] cnxthwhda_resume: ComCtrl_Control returned 7.
[13.144770] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 11s! [btdelconn:3502]

[Bug 270800] Re: suspend fails when wireless enabled

2008-09-16 Thread Chris Coulson
David - yes, you should report the soft lockup separately. Also, I think
gnome-power-manager is very unlikely to cause a kernel oops, so I don't
think it would be related.

I would also encourage you to run memtest by following the procedure at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MemoryTest

Thanks

[Bug 270800] Re: suspend fails when wireless enabled

2008-09-16 Thread David Fraser
I already had the backport modules installed:
# for f in linux-backports-modules-hardy linux-backports-modules-hardy-generic
linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-19-generic linux-backports-modules-hardy-server
linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-19-server ; do echo $f: `dpkg -s $f | grep
^Status:` `dpkg -s $f | grep ^Version:` ; done
linux-backports-modules-hardy: Status: install ok installed Version:
2.6.24.19.21
linux-backports-modules-hardy-generic: Status: install ok installed Version:
2.6.24.19.21
linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-19-generic: Status: install ok installed
Version: 2.6.24-19.17
linux-backports-modules-hardy-server: Status: install ok installed Version:
2.6.24.19.21
linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-19-server: Status: install ok installed Version:
2.6.24-19.17

So I'll remove them and retry. However, I'll need time for a test cycle
so I can make sure I run multiple times and see if I get the crash -
will do so and report back ASAP.

I'll run memtest as well
