[Bug 271229] Re: screensavers broken in intrepid with compiz
Closing due to comment saying the bug was fixed. I actually can't make electricsheep work at all in karmic as it fails to connect to the server but that is a different problem. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Released ** Changed in: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released -- screensavers broken in intrepid with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 271229] Re: screensavers broken in intrepid with compiz
** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 278112 Screensaver doesn't start ** Description changed: Binary package hint: electricsheep + + NOTE: Seemingly NOT a duplicate of bug 278112. This bug is different + than the original bug because the original bug is fixed with unchecking + Undirect Fullscreen Windows, the one reported here, however, is not + fixed with that. electricsheep won't run for me in fullscreen mode as a screensaver in Ubuntu Intrepid with an ATI X800 All In Wonder video card with compiz enabled and running (using open driver). I run a widescreen Dell LCD monitor at 1680x1050. I don't know whether the bug is actually in electricsheep, compiz, or some Xorg related package. I can run it from a terminal prompt to have it come up in a window: electricsheep --root 0 and it's fine. The installed desktop file launches it like this: electricsheep --root 1 --zoom 1 With or without zoom, the --root 1 option kills it. If in gnome-screensaver I can preview the screensaver perfectly with no problems but when it trys to run it flashes to black and then immediately quits, putting you back on your desktop. Disabling compiz temporarily and switching back to metacity instead and electricsheep works perfectly fine. I read a bit and (with compiz enabled) tried turning the setting Unredirect fullscreen windows both on and off with no effect on electricsheep. I also downloaded mplayer and tried running electricsheep like this: electricsheep --mplayer 1 Interestingly enough, that works with the version of electricsheep currently in the repo somewhat... it blacks out the screen, but runs in 4:3 resolution in my widescreen monitor whereas running electricsheep normally without mplayer (and compiz disabled) fills the entire screen. I've ALSO tried the latest PPA 's from here: https://launchpad.net/~flam3/+archive Same effects... runs great without compiz or windowed but won't run as my screensaver... and this version from the PPA won't accept either the --zoom 1 or --mplayer 1 command line options. I'd appreciate any help. I really love this screensaver. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch) Release: 8.10 apt-cache policy electricsheep electricsheep: Installed: 2.7b10-0ubuntu1~ppa0 Candidate: 2.7b10-0ubuntu1~ppa0 Version table: *** 2.7b10-0ubuntu1~ppa0 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.6.8-9ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/universe Packages apt-cache policy compiz compiz: Installed: 1:0.7.7+git20080807-0ubuntu9 Candidate: 1:0.7.7+git20080807-0ubuntu9 Version table: *** 1:0.7.7+git20080807-0ubuntu9 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status -- screensavers broken in intrepid with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am also experiencing this problem after distro upgrade to 8.10 from 8.04. When the screensaver activates, the screen fades to black and then goes back to awake status without loading the selected screensaver. 2.6.27-4-generic #1 SMP Wed Sep 24 01:29:06 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux -- screensavers broken in intrepid with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 271229] Re: screensavers broken in intrepid with compiz
BTW - I am running a HP dv6000t with nVidia Go 7400 using version 177 of the nVidia drivers. When switching from compiz to to metacity, the screensaver works again... seems to be that Xorg also is behaving differently under Ibex - it seems to shoot to 50% processor consumption every few minutes, where it will stay for about 30 seconds, before returning to 2-3%... things that make you go hmmm -- screensavers broken in intrepid with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 271229] Re: screensavers broken in intrepid with compiz
Update: So, with metacity, the above listed symptoms disappear. Seems to be some issue involving compiz.real, Xorg and gnome-screensaver - all of these processes increase in processor consumption around the time the screensaver begins to load. -- screensavers broken in intrepid with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
