I'm not sure that the crash happens when there are are some windows open. I tried and it is not so for me. I tried with an other user, and same issue. Checked KDE bugs. The crash happenes when there are open windows like thunderbird firefox and try to shutdown or restart kubuntu. No problem when I close all windows.
