[Bug 292312] Re: No devices found in X using nvidia drivers

2009-03-10 Thread Bryce Harrington

[This is an automated message]

In Jaunty (9.04) we have dropped the nvidia-graphics-driver-177 package, as
it is superseded by nvidia-graphics-drivers-180.

Because of this, we are closing this bug as expired.

You are encouraged to file your -nvidia bug reports against the
nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 package.

Hi bhjohnson17,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've
made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2009-03-05 Thread Nunquam Secutus
Hello,

Unfortunately I am not having this issue anymore so I doubt the output of
that command would be of much use to you. There is output of some commands I
ran in the forum post linked from the bug report. Hopefully that will be of
use for you. I fixed the issue by installing the 180 drivers after the last
kernel update. Before I had fixed it by the instructions in the first few
pages of the forum post (manually installing the drivers and updating the
xorg.conf file).

Sorry,
-Brent

Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers-177” source package in Ubuntu:
 Incomplete

 Bug description:
Whenever I install the nvidia drivers (either 173 or 177) in Ibex X will
fail to start upon reboot. Sometimes during bootup it hangs with Checking
Battery (something like that anyway) being the last thing that completed.
Most of the time it boots up into the command prompt with X saying that No
Devices Found. I've tried to get it to boot back into gnome by removing
the nvidia-glx-17(7|3) package and the corresponding source package but that
doesn't work. I have tried this by updating from 8.04 and I have tried this
from a clean install. In either case I enabled the graphics driver from
System - Administration - Hardware Drivers.
I am running the 64bit version of Ibex. I have a Gigabyte GA-M750SLI-DS4
mobo, AMD Phenom e9350 processor, and a nforce 8500GT GPU. Please check
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=965180 that forum post for more
 information.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.

I have classified this bug as a bug in nvidia-graphics-drivers-177,
this will subscribe the bug supervisor of this package to this bug.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of
applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can
be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the
application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about
this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I had this issue too, for a while. My workaround was to specify the PCI
location of my card in my xorg.conf. This seemed to fix everything
without any drawbacks.

[Bug 292312] Re: No devices found in X using nvidia drivers

2008-11-13 Thread jml75
Hi,

I have the same problem in 8.10 32bit.

With drivers 177, if I configure X using nvidia-settings to enable
twinview at startup, I end up with a no device found error at X
startup.

Then if I run nvidia-xconfig and I restart X, it will start but there is
no twinview.

Twinview works only if I start as single monitor and then throught
nvidia-settings enable twinview. but I have to do it each time I start
the computer.

In 8.04, it worked without any flaw.

Thanx for fixing this soon!

Jonathan
