[Bug 295277] Re: Adept Updater shows installation warning when updating existing package
Unfortunately, Adept has been unmaintained by its original authors for several years, and nobody has stepped up to continue its development. (Though the Muon Suite is arguably its spiritual successor) As such, Adept has been removed from releases of Kubuntu from 12.10 onwards, and no additional improvements will be made to the software. We thank you for reporting this bug all the same, and apologize for taking so long to respond to it. ** Changed in: adept (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to adept in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295277 Title: Adept Updater shows installation warning when updating existing package To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adept/+bug/295277/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 295277] Re: Adept Updater shows installation warning when updating existing package
I suggested that this bug be filed, so let me describe it in the terms I was thinking of. adept displays the package description. This is *not*, repeat *not*, intended as a description of the *update*; it is a description of the *package* (i.e. it is likely to be exactly the same text for most versions of the package, and only changed relatively infrequently). littlergirl interpreted this as a description of the update, in other words something that might be useful information about whether the update should be applied. Looking at the screenshot provided, I can see where this interpretation came from. If adept needs a description of the update, then the proper source for that is the changelog (which is imperfect and intended more as a developer log than a user-friendly description, but at least it hits roughly the right target). If it wants to display the package description, then it should do so in a way that makes it clear that it's describing the package as a whole rather than describing this particular update. The warning in the linux-ubuntu-modules package description is aimed at people looking at this package in a fully-fledged package manager and deciding whether or not to install it. It remains useful in that context and should not be rephrased. ** Changed in: adept (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium Status: New = Confirmed -- Adept Updater shows installation warning when updating existing package https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to adept in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
