[Bug 296327] Re: smb:/// No application is registered as handling this file

2009-10-28 Thread Sune Woeller
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 9372 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/9372

I can confirm this problem in 9.04:

Typing smb://servername in a nautilus windows location bar works. But
bookmarking this and trying to open the bookmark gives the error No
application is registered.

Using Connect to server gives the same problem.

After applying the fixes from the last post by Michael Gefen (adding
nautilus as smb:// protocol handler) it works.

This should just work - so can the gconf settings be included in a
bugfix release? Or should this bug be reported some where else in the
stack?

regards,

Sune Woeller

2009-04-02 Thread Michael Gefen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 9372 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/9372

regarding the original bug report:

i resolved this issue in ubuntu by using those commands:

$ gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/command
'nautilus %s'
$ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/enabled true
$ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/need-terminal
false

i thing that this information should be in the gnome config in the first
place.

this adds nautilus as smb:// protocol handler.

oh, and i don't think this is a samba issue, at least not the first part
of the report.

I don't know what I want you to test since your report is not clear to
me. There's bug 305030 about not being able to print from GTK+ apps
(including Evince). The problem you report here is not a standard
usecase, this is why I marked your bug as a duplicate. In bug 305030

Do you think your present problem is the cause of that bug in Evince? I
don't expect so. The problem you mention in the report is an intended

The ability of your applications to print to a network printer is
separate from the function of the gnome run dialog. Please add your
network printer to gnome using the System-Administration-Printing
application. Additionally, please do not change the assignment or

I was able to recreate this bug in 8.10. I can verify that the problem
does not exist in 8.04.1. In 8.04.1, running smb:// brought up the

able to navigate your samba network through the nautilus File Browser or
through the Places - Network menu. Your printer should be listed
there.
