I see the same on my ICH8-based motherboard (Asus P5B). Confirming a similar behavior for: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) The card is found, but no sound comes out. 1) there are no asound.conf or .asoundrc* anywhere on a system; 2) `grep -EnH '^options(.)*snd-hda-intel' /etc/modprobe.d/*` finds nothing.
