[Bug 301276] Re: kmail blank in front of smpt server

2008-12-03 Thread Richard Birnie
I agree that there is an issue here that could be better handled by
Kontact. However, it's not really something we can fix at a distribution
level. Basically you're looking for a feature to be added to Kontact.
That's something that needs to be added upstream within KDE itself. As
such all I can usefully suggest is that we close this report (since
there's nothing we can do about it) and ask that you file this as a wish
at bugs.kde.org

thanks for following up.
Rich

[Bug 301276] Re: kmail blank in front of smpt server

2008-12-01 Thread georg
I'm quite sure, it was a copy paster error and of course my fault, but I spend
about half an hour searching why my email settings were not working. It was
quite hard to find the blank and I did not expect to find a problem at this
place, because it looked fine and I copied the address from a webpage.
I think every user commited string where white spaces don't make sense should
be trimmed ((QString::trimmed()) ), because this kind of copy paste error are
quite hard to find. The server invalid dialog sounds great, too.

[Bug 301276] Re: kmail blank in front of smpt server

2008-12-01 Thread Richard Birnie
I can confirm that this is the case. Inserting a space at the start of
the server name does cause it to fail. I'm not quite sure what the bug
is here. Ultimately kmail fails to send because an invalid server
address was entered. That's not a bug that's user error. Do you have a
use case where you need to be able to insert a space or are you
suggesting that kmail should display a warning to say that this is not a
valid server name? To put it another way. What behaviour would you
expect to see in this situation and how does this differ from the
current observed behaviour?
