[Bug 312586] Re: Ubuntu server 8.10 kernel panic 2.6.27-9-server

2010-11-15 Thread mhamel
I tried the alternate installers for 8.04 and 10.04 and no luck with
them either. The hardware is evidently OK because Debian 5.06 installed
first time and is running reliably.

I can confirm comment #2; installing on the K7VMM+ fails at install time
on 10.04.1 and 8.04. Both installs hang after a few minutes.

[Bug 312586] Re: Ubuntu server 8.10 kernel panic 2.6.27-9-server

2010-04-23 Thread Florian Staudacher
Ok, it turned out to be hardware failure. I tested the board again just now,
and I can't even boot into a live CD anymore without the computer rebooting
randomly and the chips getting dangerously hot, even memtest doesn't run longer
than a few seconds.
I guess this renders the issue moot.

[Bug 312586] Re: Ubuntu server 8.10 kernel panic 2.6.27-9-server

2009-11-16 Thread Florian Staudacher
Sorry, I don't have the hardware in use anymore. As soon as I switched
mainboard the installation went smoothly, though.
If you can wait for me putting the board in a test system I can try it with my
recently arrived Kubuntu 9.10 CD.

On second thought it might also be a hardware failure since the board
ran for quite some time 24/7...

[Bug 312586] Re: Ubuntu server 8.10 kernel panic 2.6.27-9-server

2009-10-16 Thread Jim Lieb
Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Karmic Koala 9.10
Beta release? ISO CD images are available at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ . If the issue remains with
Karmic it would be great to then also test the latest upstream mainline
kernel available. This will allow additional upstream developers to
examine this issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Thanks in advance.

[Bug 312586] Re: Ubuntu server 8.10 kernel panic 2.6.27-9-server

2009-08-28 Thread David Bensimon
@ Florian

I would like to note that I just preformed an Ubuntu 9.04 installation
on an Elitegroup ECS K7VMM+ and there was a bug and a workaround.

Bug: Ubiquity stops at 22%, mouse freezes, system unresponsive (LiveCD 32-bit)
Workaround: Used alternate (text) installer

If anyone with this motherboard can confirm this, it would be helpful.

[Bug 312586] Re: Ubuntu server 8.10 kernel panic 2.6.27-9-server

2009-01-10 Thread Florian Staudacher
I am gettin this or a few other kernel panics, when I try to boot my
little server. Unfortunately it occurs even before I get the login
prompt - thus the system is unusable. Sometimes the backtrace ends with
fatal exception in interrupt or tried to kill the idle task.

## my system:
EliteGroup K7VMM+ Mainboard, AMD Duron 1,3GHz, 512 MB RAM
software raid1 w 2x80GB
  /dev/sda1 - /boot
  /dev/sda2 - /
  /dev/sdb1 - swap
  /dev/sdb2 - /var
  /dev/md2 - /dev/sda3 + /dev/sdb3 - /home
  /dev/md4 - /dev/sda4 + /dev/sdb3 - /srv

## reproduceable: when I first bootet after the installation, I was able
to use the system for a few hours before the error occurred. But now I
get the error as soon as the services are starting up.

## I tried: booting with nolapic, noapic, nosmp, acpi=off, noacpi und ide=nodma
(one at a time), disabling acpi in the bios, disabling p'n'p in the bios.
I even installed the latest intrepid-proposed kernel 2.6.27-11 (thanks to the
install cd rescue mode), but experience the same problem with that.

## strange: all the live cds I have seem to work just fine. I tried 8.10
desktop, knoppix 5.1, opensuse 11.1
