It would appear that metacity is not launched, either. When I open an
application, I can't move it with Alt + drag, nor close it with Alt+F4.

I'm running GNOME alongside KDE4 on Jaunty up-to-date as of today, with the
nVidia driver.
- When I login to GNOME, there are no window decorations drawn. To get them
back, one of two things works:

launches Compiz as expected. This setting does not appear to persist, though.
- (2) Running compiz in a terminal. I can switch back to gwd by running
gtk-window-decorator --replace, but running gwd first without compiz does not
work.
