I have to say this is the same issue I face. If I ever let my laptop go into suspend mode it will not come out of it. When I try the hard drive light comes on for a while and then nothing. I downloaded the Karmic 9.10 Alpha 5 release. I started my computer in LiveCD. Karmic start without any problem. I try to suspend my machine. The suspend process was faster, I decide to wait 15 seconds before wake up, I press the power button to wake up my computer. My computer don't go out of the suspend mode. Caps Lock ans Scroll Lock leds begin to flash. I don't know waht happens! Hi mramosy, Please test and confirm this issue remains with the latest Karmic 9.10 Alpha development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . You should be able to test suspend using a LiveCD. Please let us know your results.
