I think I could say that I still experiencing this issue. Allthough after manually installing a nvidia beta driver and following the instructions in this post: http://www.amitsrivastava.net/2008-03-23-hibernate-suspend-resolved- ubuntu-gutsy-nvidia-dell-vostro/ it now works most of the time. But I think it should be possible to use standby and hibernate after a default setup without all that hacking. Let me know if you need more information ...
