Re: [Bug 359109] Re: kernel 2.6.28 freeze

2009-06-17 Thread shadow
sorry being about being so late.

here is the results.

firstly 2.6.24 was running ok but the problem was resulted from 2.6.28
kernel. i have tried several things and included your solutions disabling
the splash screen and could not find out meaningful solution.

i was reported 2.6.24 was running ok except for intel graphic card. the main
reason for this i think lack of the memory since it was only 512MB ram and
32 mb graphic card. i thought that the same reason can cause the 2.6.28
kernel freezes, then i decided to sell my laptop. (which i did). right now i
have a dual -core 2GB ram 512 MB graphic card laptop and i is running
perfectly even with kde 3D desktop effects (not compiz, i did not tried).

as a result the freezing problem could be casued from lack of memory, so you
can close the thread now.

thanks for your nice help and support.

thank for your affords. i will try to do the whatever you said.
but normally i can not give you a the outputs since i can not boot up with new
kernel 2.6.28.
i will do the last modification that you have described and let you know which
parts are freezing.

best.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 359109] Re: kernel 2.6.28 freeze

2009-04-10 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report.
3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

[Bug 359109] Re: kernel 2.6.28 freeze

2009-04-10 Thread Philip Muskovac
If you can't boot your system at all some other ways:
- the dmesg output is contained in /var/log/kern.log you can best get it by
mounting the root volume on a live-cd and copying the file from there. You can
also generate the lspci output there.

If you want to know where the system hangs you can disable the splash
screen on boot:

when grub comes up with the boot list select your new kernel and press e to
edit the configuration.
On the next screen select the kernel line and press e again to edit it. There
delete quiet and splash.
Then press enter to save it and then b to boot. Then you should see what the
kernel is doing when it freezes.
