Unfortunately, nether has worked for me - Ubuntu 11.10, 64Bit (server edition) - removed frei0r-plugins -> error message echo ...> kdenliverc -> error message Copy old version of kdenliverc into .kde/share... If #16 doesn't work for you open ~/.kde/share/config/kdenliverc remove "\n" and replace it with a new line. I have the problem as well on Kubuntu 11.10. This is happening to me as well. Running Kubuntu 11.10 beta 2. Installed Kdenlive from Muon. Install went fine but when I try to run the application, I get a screen pop-up that says: Fatel Error: MLT's SDL module not found. Please check your MLT install. Kdenlive will not work until this is fixed. This is from a complete fresh install. Never installed this application before. There is not even a configuration file created to delete. fixed upstream in MLT git (http://mltframework.org/gitweb/mlt.git), the trouble is caused by facedetect.so ( a frei0r plugin). i'm having this problem too-but it seems to be a little different on my system. i have ubuntu 9.04 32 bit edition. I installed kdenlive and ran the initial wizard that comes up. I tried out kdenlive. I never rendered any video. Then I installed frei0r- plugins. I played with some more video. I went to render and it didn't work. I got the message about it being corrupted. I couldn't figure out the problem for some time. I finally tried running the config wizard from settings -> run config wizard. That is when I got the message: "error, couldn't find SDL module from MLT, Kdenlive will not start untill you fix this" So I searched the web for that message and came up here. I tried what Guido suggested. Or I think I did-and it was a partial work-around for me. It solved the inability to render-if I left out step 5. But I wasn't able to get frei0r-plugins reinstalled and have it work. Here is exactly what I did: 1 uninstalled frei0r-plugins using synaptic 2 started kdenlive from applications -> audio and video 3 ran "run config wizard" from settings 4 closed kdenlive If I open it again and try to render it works. The problem seems to be with the "facedetect.so" plugin (/usr/lib/frei0r-1/facedetect.so). I'm having the same issue. Kdenlive crashes on startup whenever frei0r is installed. But for me none of the fore mentioned work-arounds seem to work. I completely removed kdenlive, frei0r, the kdenlive directory and the .kde directory. After that I ran the kdenlive wizard before reinstalling frei0r, but it didn't solve the problem. Kdenlive keeps crashing at startup. Removing frei0r is not an option, it limits the available effects in kdenlive; many common effects (like adjusting contrast) are unavailable. sorry to say that MichaelB, but deleting kdenliverc file works ONLY if frei0r-plugins aren't installed on the system. when the problem happened I erased all configuration files
(/home/{user}/.kde) and the problem was still present, installing frei0r

I'd like to work on that point, but after several attempts, I haven't been able to reproduce. I removed any configuration file for kdenlive, installed frei0r plugins, ran kdenlive config wizzard, no issue reported... The problem is probably happening with an existing kdenlive configuration written when mlt didn't have frei0r plugins support, or something like that...
