Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

Ubuntu 9.04
ecryptfs-utils 73-0ubuntu6

The / and /home directories are on separate partitions, and I began to install
Ubuntu 9.04 on the / partition via a live USB (created with Portable Linux);
the computer was near the end of the installation process (98%) when a popup
window appeared displaying this error: Error removing ecryptfs-utils:
subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

After closing that window, another window appeared displaying this error
message: E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

The following packages are in a broken state:

ecryptfs-utils

This may be due to using an old installer image, or it may be due to a
bug in some of the packages listed above. More details may be found in
/var/log/syslog. The installer will try to continue anyway, but may fail
at a later point, and will not be able to install or remove other
packages (possibly including itself) from the installed system. You
should first look for newer versions of your installer image, or failing
that report the problem to your distributor.
