[Bug 369375] Re: Jaunty: very slow video playback using xv with proprietary Radeon HD 2400 driver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs. -- Jaunty: very slow video playback using xv with proprietary Radeon HD 2400 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 369375] Re: Jaunty: very slow video playback using xv with proprietary Radeon HD 2400 driver
I want to add that the last three driver updates solved almost all issues. 9.7 solved scale and performance problems with XV. 9.8 solved flickering problem with OpenGL and finally the XV performance got even better with 9.9. For all Ubuntu versions it's really easy to build packages with the executable from the ATI page. And since the driver support DKMS you don't even have to bother about recompiling after kernel updates. (with Compiz on, tearing is still there though, but this is another story) So in my case I have to say.. PROBLEM SOLVED! [Bug 369375] Re: Jaunty: very slow video playback using xv with proprietary Radeon HD 2400 driver
Same here. I have a HP Probook with Mobility Radeon HD 4330. XV is unbearable and wrong scalining with compositing on (100% CPU usage on one core, mainly from Xorg). I have to use OpenGL for mplayer for better viewing experience, but side effect is blinking and audio skip (when switching window/desktop) I am using no-backfill patch and 8.620 from x -swat-updates ppa.
Likewise, but as we've been told, using the proprietary ATI Catalyst 9.8 for Linux drivers we are left with no support, I fortunately have decent performance with my HD 4650 (rv730). It is set to 1920 x 1080 on both of my screens (24 and 52 Samsung flat panels). aticonfig --initial=dual-head aticonfig --help I'm still trying to find more info on how to fully utilize the aticonfig settings. I still notice tearing on video playback, with quite impressive framerate, no stuttering for the most part, unless you get into 1080p .mkv video. 720p .mkv plays quite well. Flickering on flash videos remains an issue. Of course we will not be able to enable any 3d rendering as far as I know. The support is apparently somewhat there for rv5xx, and rv6xx. I bought this card for my older agp system to play video. It's an Athlon 64 3400+ with 3 GB of Mushkin Memory. If anyone gets this working feel free to leave some info on one of the http://ubuntuforums.org/index.php threads. Search for rv730. I have posted in there. I'm pretty sure it's clearly stated not to post here for fixes related to ATI/AMD proprietary drivers, fglrx etc... I apologize sincerely. -- Jaunty: very slow video playback using xv with proprietary Radeon HD 2400 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Conformed here, the video is choppy and glxgears is giving minimal frame rates when compositing is on. -- Jaunty: very slow video playback using xv with proprietary Radeon HD 2400 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can also confirm this. I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 amd64, Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3850 AGP running on fglrx 9.6 from AMD. Video playback on Totem and tvtime is very slow when running compiz. [Bug 369375] Re: Jaunty: very slow video playback using xv with proprietary Radeon HD 2400 driver
Recently i installed Jaunty (amd64) on HP 6735s. Turion 64 X2 (2.1 GHz), 3 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3200 (256 MB)... and compiz works great, but when i try to watch a video in totem with subtitles, the video is slow and i get few FPS and CPU usage is very high. Cube rotation and other stuff when playing video in totem is very slow and i get like 1 or two frames of the rotation animation... this is ugly... I have ATI restricted drivers installed with de hardware drivers app... I can watch videos switching to metacity... but the overall window moving and handle is slow too... like the window leaves echoes in background windows when moving... i think this is a very important bug... or the driver is not good at all. thanks, -- Jaunty: very slow video playback using xv with proprietary Radeon HD 2400 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just found out that the HD 3200 is based on the HD 2400.
