[Bug 378930] Re: blkid hangs on /dev/.tmp-block-* devices

2009-05-22 Thread Olav Kolbu
Same problem here, but on sata disks. No USB. Running amd64 Karmic but
with 2.6.28-11-generic kernel from Jaunty, as the 2.6.30 fails to boot
on my box.

$ ps wwaux|grep blkid

Strace of the blkid processes gives no output, so they're just spinning.

Worth noting is that this kernel hangs for about 5 minutes during boot,
around here:

[Bug 378930] Re: blkid hangs on /dev/.tmp-block-* devices

2009-05-22 Thread Olav Kolbu
The patched util-linux from Daniel Hahler in bug #377395 fixed the
problem for me. The kernel no longer uses 5 minutes to boot, and there
are no long running blkid processes anymore. The patches are only in his
private repository so far, so you need to add that to your sources to
install. Do remember to run the update-initramfs command after you've
upgraded util-linux from his repository though, otherwise you won't see
any change.

If more people are helped by his util-linux then perhaps this bug should
be marked as a duplicate.
