Exactly same behavior on Kubuntu, alpha 3 and alpha 4. I upgraded from 9.04 and lost wireless connections, but the button did turn wireless on and off (with no response from knetworkmanager though). I have the same problem too. No reaction in lshal -m on wifi button press.
