Thank you for removing security tag. Is seemed to me at the time when reporting that it is major issue. I want to add that update behavior during kernel update i described, is on act Only when during updatee any other setting but default "leave version" is selected. When that default is set, then kernel update goes without touching other Ubuntu installations in menu.lst. So the think that is broken here is that Update process assumes Currently updating ubuntu is alone on machine, when any other option then default is selected during kernel update. The same behavior I observed in updating 9.04 while testing, etc. Currently updating Ubuntu installation, should be intelligent enough not to change or touch other system`s grub settings in menu.lst, no matter what option is selected during kernel update and to change only settings for the version it is updating. (Or make nem menu item if unshure) Also, kernel update process should not change default Grub system that is booting and be smart enough to recalculate number of grup option , even if changing number of boot options in grub, while updating.
