[Bug 404064] Re: KMS error message while intializing modesetting (during boot and resume) - render error detected, EIR: 0x00000010 [i915]
Hello, I'm new user of Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). I got a problem: after i choose Ubuntu on GRUB bootloader, i can see my Ubuntu is loading. After that, the picture broken, maybe similar with this picture: http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m539/Lambda2309/brokenubuntu.jpg Then i fix it with Ubuntu fixer (second choose on GRUB bootloader). After that, i can open my Ubuntu. I think my Ubuntu fixed. After few days, i want to use Ubuntu again. But i got message: render_error_detected (i only remember this message, but i didn't take note and copy this) Maybe my problem is related by this topics. I'm using GIGABYTE mobo, and i didn't use any graphic card (i use the VGA plug that connected directly with the motherboard) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404064 Title: KMS error message while intializing modesetting (during boot and resume) - render error detected, EIR: 0x0010 [i915] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/404064/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 404064] Re: KMS error message while intializing modesetting (during boot and resume) - render error detected, EIR: 0x00000010 [i915]
This error is NOT harmless to me: after resuming from sleep the screen is extremely dark, so dark I first thought it was blank! The funny thing is I cannot even reach such a darkness level in normal conditions. Disabling KMS with i915.modeset=0 solves the problem. Except for the unusable dark screen everything always works fine even after resume: compiz, Ctrl-Alt-FN, etc. I have this message at boot time AND at resume time, WITHOUT the page table error. MarcH, it sounds like your backlight is not being switched back on when you resume. This is most likely unrelated to the EIR render error, but the EDID error probably has something to do with it. This error is still occurring for me. When I play lots of video everything freezes then moves to a black screen screen just showing this error message. Then it either goes to login screen, or if it's really bad, to tty1 hangs for a bit, then login. This has only started happening for me since Karmic and happens many times every day. It is making the PC almost unusable for video. I do not see the error message on startup (unless it pops up quickly and goes away?). Hope we find some reason for this at some point. @nloewen If you have also an i915 graphic card I think so. Just confirm the upstream bug report so that the devs know that it is not a rare issue. Btw. so far I had experienced no penalties through it. Everything graphic related (except of some glitches with textured video but I guess this is a different problems) seems to work fine except of this message. -- KMS error message while intializing modesetting (during boot and resume) - render error detected, EIR: 0x0010 [i915] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404064 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
