After recent updates and/or manual re-installation of gdebi & gdebi-core (using synaptic): Solved for me (gdebi-gtk works as usual). Trying to install Picasa and Opera both installs crashed. I'm getting the same error. I just reinstalled my system from a fresh 9.04 and updated to Karmic via updatemanager -d.
