Not elegant I know, but at least the window now fits on the screen. [Bug 421621] Re: pavucontrol's window width depends on stream names, may get very wide
I'm sad to say this bug still hasn't been fixed in pavucontrol 1.0, 3.5 years after the original report. It is a nightmare if I leave the volume control up while playing all my classical music in a media player, since the long names can easily cause the volume control window to fill or even go beyond the width of my 1900x1280 display! Going to go report this upstream as well... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421621 Title: pavucontrol's window width depends on stream names, may get very wide To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/421621/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 421621] Re: pavucontrol's window width depends on stream names, may get very wide
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of this project. - PAVU control is not part of the default install , hence not a papercut. For further information about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut. Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the papercuts project. ** Changed in: hundredpapercuts Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- pavucontrol's window width depends on stream names, may get very wide https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421621 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 421621] Re: pavucontrol's window width depends on stream names, may get very wide
This affects me too, and it is really annoying. If I use a virtual simultanous output device of pulseaudio, pavucontrol gets wider than my screen. This is very annoying, but should be easy to fix. [Bug 421621] [NEW] pavucontrol's window width depends on stream names, may get very wide
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pavucontrol Pavucontrol's window is determined dynamically to accomodate all controls, including stream labels. That can lead to window (much) larger that screen width, which makes it difficult to manipulate the controls (moving window left and right with alt-drag and such). The attached screenshot shows this -- it was combined from 2 screenshots, as the pertion beyond screen was not shot. Proper solution would be to limit the width somehow and ellipsisize the stream name.
