Same problem with my ipod touch 8gb. The same type of thing is happening to me, Ubuntu is not recognizing my ipod at all, nothing pops up at all when I plug my ipod into the computer. 1. Yes it is reproducible. 2. Plug in my ipod using a usb cable and then launch Rhythmbox and my ipod does not appear anywhere--even if i unplug the usb and plug it in again. 3.
