[Bug 432856] Re: network manager applet crash in karmic alpha 6

2009-09-28 Thread fumozzo
I just installed the same daily build and the problem persists.
nm-applet doesn't crash but still won't connect to a wpa network.

Syslog still says:

NetworkManager: user_connection_updated_cb: assertion `old_connection !=
NULL' failed

NetworkManager: WARN  user_connection_get_settings_cb():
user_connection_get_settings_cb: Invalid connection: 'NMSetting8021x' /
'client-cert' invalid: 2

NetworkManager: WARN  wait_for_connection_expired(): Connection (2)

not connecting to wpa is a different bug than crashing ... please open

For me it also does not connect automatically (yeah, that's another bug - I
need to open the window for connecting to the existing network and then without
any more action it just connects... maybe that's related to the key manager)
Did you try cleaning the saved wpa networks, and Connect to hidden wireless
network? (just an idea)

Reading the syslog files with the old (working) version of nm-applet and
with the last version the only difference I can find is a line saying:

Sep 24 17:01:43 homer NetworkManager: WARN
user_connection_get_settings_cb(): user_connection_get_settings_cb:
Invalid connection: 'NMSetting8021x' / 'client-cert' invalid: 2

This line appears only with not working versions of network-manager-
gnome

this version and the one in alpha 6.
I will try the version in Jauny (nm 0.7.1).

[Bug 432856] Re: network manager applet crash in karmic alpha 6

2009-09-22 Thread Gergely Fábián
I also installed the version from jaunty (0.7.1~rc4.1-0ubuntu2) and it works.
The version in karmic is still a development version 0.8~a~git.20080911...
(there was no release after 0.7.1 as far as I see from network-manager, the
latest tag I see in their git repo is 0.7.1).
I see such a commit in their git repo, dated to June 5 2009:

wifi: remove obsolete code clearing SSID and encryption

Leave it to wpa_supplicant now; if we can't trust the supplicant to
handle this, then we need to fix the supplicant. It knows better than
us what needs to happen with drivers, and it already clears the
encryption keys anyway.

This seems to be related to our problem. So SSID and encryption related things
may be disfunctional in the current state. I'm not sure they have fixed
supplicant from that time on (they don't state it later in the git log).
Maybe it would be worth trying whether installing from the git repo with the
commit above and without it make any difference...

[Bug 432856] Re: network manager applet crash in karmic alpha 6

2009-09-22 Thread Gergely Fábián
I have the WPA network settings (with hidden SSID) saved (I managed to
connect with the jaunty's 0.7.1rc4).

I've tried the following: downloaded NetworkManager from their git repo,
installed all prerequisites for building, and built and installed the latest
version (Sep 21, with commit d548fc9a61c710076a2cf635d725586f091cb6b5 on top)
(did not install anything else that they mention on
http://projects.gnome.org/NetworkManager/developers/).
After stopping the running network-manager, I started nm-applet.
This version was trying to connect to the WPA network, but after some time it
said disconnected.

I stopped nm-applet, rolled back NetworkManager to the commit mentioned
in my previous note (June 5, 01a1bafc1d8abee153a8aca0495c77292f4f07e3),
built and installed it, and when I started nm-applet it connected
automatically (and internet access was all ok).

Reseting to a Sep 9 commit (aced7c25c2523b4fce5b33c31556396fce983ec0;
build, install, restart) results also in getting connection
automatically.

Reseting in turn to the commit above the previous (Sep 10,
8d205212dcf67fa0bf4e4730bf8353f65e7059ee; build, install, restart)
results in being disconnected after long trying.

It's important to note, that I had to run make clean before building
each time, then I could reproduce the above cases once more (compiled
again all scenarios).

So I think it's the commit from Sep 10
(8d205212dcf67fa0bf4e4730bf8353f65e7059ee) that has caused this bug.

[Bug 432856] Re: network manager applet crash in karmic alpha 6

2009-09-20 Thread Gergely Fábián
I experienced something similar after installing alpha 6.
I tried to connect to a WPA Wireless network with hidden ssid (entered ssid and
WPA Passphrase), then it showed as if it was connected but when I clicked on
the icon it crashed.
Later I tried starting nm-applet from the console, and did the same steps as
above (connecting to hidden WPA network) and then I saw the crash report in the
console (segmentation fault).
I attach the crash report.
