[Bug 437113] Re: System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded
Hi Alan, If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. [Bug 437113] Re: System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded
Have a look at this: http://lists-archives.org/linux-kernel/27285225-ahci-disable-fpdma-auto-activate-optimization-on-nvidia-ahci.html I'm currently testing this patch myself,as I had a very similar issue with random lockups and looping audio. This problem also showed up on windows: http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19308762/19618450.aspx#19618450 It seems due to a bug in the mcp79(7a) sata controller or driver not handling auto activation fpdma requests properly. My system is an aspire revo r1600 with mcp79 and atom 230(ion le vga).Hope this helps. -- System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437113 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 437113] Re: System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded
I have a PAckard Bell imax mini, and that works OK with nvidia driver 195. I did use the hdmi cable on a 1680x1050 monitor/tv, but that did not give the right resolution, I guess HDMI is 720p, or true 1080p I now use VGA cable (more resolutions possible) One thing I see in kinfocenter: an OHCI device, where there is no one board?? I have a working dvbt device, where the dvbs does not work .. [Bug 437113] Re: System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded
I think I have the same bug. I'm on the 185 NVidia driver and after upgrading to Karmic I get random reboots. About once per day everything but the mouse pointer freezes. Neither caps lock nor anything else works. -- System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437113 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 437113] Re: System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded
System locked up again, and (I dont know if this is useful for diagnostic purposes) the display still had what was showing when it locked up - which is the boxee front screen, no corruption, date/time stopped at the point of lockup. Reverted back to 185 driver. I then booted up and ran Boxee, played a video file and whilst navigating a menu the system locked up. Interestingly the display froze and the audio looped whatever was playing. So there was a repetitive 0.5 second or so over and over until I turned it off. I don't know if this helps to figure out where the issue is, whether it is/isnt a kernel issue. Tempted to take the box in my suitcase to UDS and ask someone to have a look at it with their own eyes, maybe I'm missing something :) -- System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437113 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 437113] Re: System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded
I'm not sure, but typically if a machine fails to respond to pings it suggests a kernel fault such as an oops. It could be an -nvidia bug, but I'm going to forward this to the kernel team for troubleshooting. ** Package changed: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu) -- System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437113 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Tried installing the 190 beta drivers from the nvidia-vdpau repo to see if that made a difference and it still locks up hard. -- System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437113 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 437113] Re: System hangs with nvidia binary driver loaded
** Description changed: I'm running Ubuntu Karmic on an Acer Aspire Revo 3600 which has an nVidia ION based chipset. It's been locking up fairly reliably for a few weeks. I can boot the machine, shutdown X, unload the nvidia kernel module and then leave it running and get no hang situations. If I leave X up, or shutdown X but leave the nvidia kernel module loaded I get hard lockups. Magic SysRq sequences do nothing.
