[Bug 442178] Re: rt2860 doesn't connect on 802.11n wifi

2010-08-19 Thread Winston Smith
You don't have to compile the driver to get it work with the current
Lucid kernel (2.6.32-24). You just need the configuration file
(RT2860STA.dat).

1. Download the driver for RT2860PCI/mPCI/CB/PCIe(RT2760/RT2790/RT2860/RT2890
from the page http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2
2. Extract the archive
3. Configure the configuration file RT2860STA.dat (see README_STA for
information)
4. Copy your customizedRT2860STA.dat to /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat
5. Reload the driver (rmmod rt2860sta and modprobe rt2860sta)
I don't know, if it's necessary to insert the module in /etc/modules.

Works for me with the configuration file from the 2.4.0.0 driver source
and the 2.6.32-24 kernel on Lucid.

Found that trick on a german blog (http://campino2k.de/2010/04/07/wer-
lesen-kann-ist-klar-im-vorteil/).

[Bug 442178] Re: rt2860 doesn't connect on 802.11n wifi

2010-08-04 Thread QuiescentWonder
This problem STILL exists in Lucid.

I found a forum post somewhere that has similar information to
Sisternicky's post here. Here is what I did.

I followed the directions from Sisternicky - this WILL NOT WORK if you
don't edit the values to HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y and
HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y.

1. sudo su instead of putting sudo in front of everything.
2. I took the interface down before make install with ifconfig wlan0 down.
3. I then rmmod rt2860sta to unload the kernel module.
4. Now run make install.
5. Do NOT edit anything, at this point you can just modprobe rt2860sta

Done! WirelessManager automatically reconnected at 135 Mb/s

[Bug 442178] Re: rt2860 doesn't connect on 802.11n wifi

2010-06-20 Thread v1t03k
Hi everybody,

I had the same problem as I have an ASUS PCE-N13, 300Mbps, PCIe x1 wireless
card with the same chipset RA2860STA.
I've tried to compile from the source version 2.3.0.0 but had no luck with
that. My kernel is 2.6.32-23-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jun 11 08:03:28 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

Then I booted the 2.6.32-22 kernel and saw that the wirellen N connection
worked with the original kernel modul (1.8.1.1).
During the compiling/installation process I figured out the file
/etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat was created.

So for me it works only with the original config file from source package.
I only changed some paramaters in it.
(WirelessMode=7,CountryCode=DE,AuthMode=WPA2PSK,EncrypType=AES)
I can start my 802.11n connection with WICD.

2010-06-20 Thread Simone Donadello
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on EEEPC 901 (Ralink rt2860). I had this bug too.
With the new release, I also had the bug #496093
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/496093) : no connection
to WPA/WPA2 mixed mode wifi.
I followed the instructions in the post #190 of the previous bug, installing
the new driver from Ralink, and now it works perfectly, both N connectivity (up
to about 130Mb/s in my case) and WPA/WPA2 authentication (as I reported in
comment #232 of that bug).

This bug also affects me on Lucid (apt-upgraded on the 28th March 2010)

The source on ralink's site is pretty ugly, but has worked as a work

This is a fairly popular driver, and although people might not *need*
802.11n, I believe it's more important what with all the HD video we're
trying to stream from our Ubuntu machines these days.

Same problem here (eeepc 901). Workaraound works:

sudo iwpriv ra0 set WirelessMode=9 #(WirelessMode=5 aswell)
sudo iwpriv ra0 set HtBw=1

And reconnect manually afterwards via network-manager.

I dont see the point in installing the driver manually, if its just an
configuration issue. I think ubuntu should get its configuration
straight. I came switching from windows and because of this issue first
i was thinking of going back to windows :) cause i need draft-n
connection. New users with less experience might consider this also, so
i hope this gets fixed soon.

In the meantime, is there a way to execute the above commands as root

you usually have to restart the interface as well. that helped me every time so

just want that file to be included automatically or at least created at

Hi,

yes there is.
Just compile the Ralink Driver from http://www.ralinktech.com (you must apply
my patch before compiling (Sisternicky)) and install it.
To compile:
- Apply the patch
- Edit the os/linux/config.mk and set the following values:
HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y
HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y
- sudo make
- sudo make uninstall
- sudo make install
- Edit the /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat and insert the values
corresponding to your country.
For Germany, this would be
CountryRegion=1
CountryRegionABand=1
CountryCode=DE
WirelessMode=5

or see http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/WLAN#Frequenzen_und_Kan%C3%A4le for
more information

and ther you go. you can connect as usual just with networkmanager :)

The Problem is: Network-Manager does not accept the driver (It does not even
see a wireless device any more)! But the driver itself works with the patch if
you bypass network-manager.

This is a Problem of Network-Manager (worked in Jaunty).

Here is the Patch: https://launchpad.net/bugs/396945

[Bug 442178] Re: rt2860 doesn't connect on 802.11n wifi / NetworkManager does not accept OEM Driver

2009-10-09 Thread Nicolas Joyard
Sisternicky, thanks for your help, but the problem is not that we cannot
use the driver. It works very well with 802.11b/g networks. The problem
reported in this bug is that it doesn't handle 802.11N networks.

I try to compile the last ralink driver from their web page but it
doesn't work. Compilation exits with these errors :

it seems that the new ralink drivers can't build in kernel newer than
2.6.30

Nicolas, this build problem is known. Ralink drivers are written for old
versions of the kernel; the Ubuntu version is patched to allow building
with newer kernels.

Ok thanks.

It seems that there are some progresses in the 2.6.32RC1 :

rt* wireless drivers. Bart has done amazing work merging all of these together
into something much better than they originally were. And even better, they
still work! Great job Bart!

To be continued ...I think we won't see any change in this version of
the kernel ...

** Description changed:

  I'm trying the beta version of 9.10 on my eeepc901 (this model uses the

  If I configure my routeur on N mode only, I can't connect at all.

  But if I configure it on N+G, I can connect in G mode, at 54 MBits/s
  (instead of the theorical 300MBits/s on N mode).
+
