Using Gaim 2.0.0 beta 6, (included in Feisty), I opened 30 tabs and noticed no dramatic increase in CPU usage. I was able to resize the window and shuffle through the tabs (using the left and right arrows) and everything worked as it should. I realized that all this happens when the powernowd service is running. The freq of my CPU is reduced to 800 MHz and that's why all the gnome desktop (principally gaim, as I described above) become slower. If you disable powernowd that's resolved. Similar problem here. Gaim uses a lot of CPU not when I open many tabs, but when someone uses animated icons. In that conversation, when a send a message, it takes a lot of time to display the text. This does not happen when both don't use animated icons. I just had a thought. This could actualy be a GTK issue, as i have issues with Firefox when i have over a dozen tabs open, and a few misc issues around the place.
