If this works in 11.04, why hasn't it been updated in the LTS ubuntu?
10.04 is still LTS on desktop until 2013, yes?

[Bug 463829] Re: No sound on Creative Labs [SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG

2010-10-06 Thread 1guess
As far as I can tell nothing has changed.
Reading through the messages on the alsa-devel site it appears that this is an
outstanding bug in ALSA code and the
regression occurred at time ALSA introduced the multi-codec check:
commit deadff1665491afce124a8ff83f00f784161f660
ALSA: hda: track CIRB/CORB command/response states for each codec

It appears no-one is currently working on fixing this issue in ALSA
code.

This is information i pulled from the message board. I have attempted to
build a compilation of the messages (attached) to save you time (most
recent response from Takashi is April 2010).

2010-08-25 Thread Spinalcracker
@ Alan Barton

It appears to me you are just using the onboard sound and not your
Creative SB X-Fi Extreme card. The purpose of this bug report is to try
and gain working sound using the card. You have not posted a fix. You
have described how to turn this card off when booted into Ubuntu. We
need it to be on and functioning in Ubuntu.

I do appreciate you getting involved in the discussion though, I just
think you misunderstood the nature of these posts. It's not to get
working sound. It's to get working sound USING a SB X-Fi Extreme card.

Although I did not expected that the upgrade to Ubuntu lucid (10.04

confirm that I do not have any sound and that same problems with the
hda-intel driver and the ca0110 codec is still occurring. No change with

[Bug 463829] Re: No sound on Creative Labs [SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG

2010-03-26 Thread Brad Figg
Hi Ghebu,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 463829

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil
icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

sudo make

sudo make install-modules

sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel

Run alsamixer to unmute channels and raise the volume levels.

Add your user account to the audio group via adduser.

* Key to note, because this is a rebranded chip, it's actually the
snd-hda-intel module, not the ctxfi one you need. I think this may be causing
some of the confusion

[Bug 463829] Re: No sound on Creative Labs [SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG

2009-12-05 Thread Susan Cragin
I wish to modify my above comment, because it gives an incorrect impression.
The only application I get sound in is Dragon NaturallySpeaking run without
pulseaudio and with alsa enabled. None of my other sound applications work at
all, and it is very difficult to get NatSpeak to run, as outlined above. I have
to snap the card in and out, and then adjust the sound settings in alsamixer,
and then it usually runs.

[Bug 463829] Re: No sound on Creative Labs [SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG

2009-12-04 Thread Susan Cragin
I have a similar bug filed somewhere. My Creative X-fi card works sometimes,
but only sometimes if I snap it in and out of the computer while the computer
is running. Then I can get one program working with it, usually. Then it stops
working.
I have Ubuntu Studio Lucid with all updates as of 4 Dec.

[Bug 463829] Re: No sound on Creative Labs [SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG

2009-11-02 Thread Peter van Toorn
I agree that this bug is a duplicate of #461078, which I submitted on
the 26th of October.

I installed as suggested by Daniel Chen the linux-backports-modules-
alsa-karmic-generic. Based on the behavior of the software and the
error/messages obtained by the dmesg command, I did not see any
improvement at al. (see also the dmesg.txt on bug #461078, and copied
in this bug report as attachment). The full alsa-info of mY amd can be
seen on site : http://www.alsa-
project.org/db/?f=5f1f1566912483221831d078a8a4f0d37137a1ae

I installed also alsa 1.021 obtained from alsa-project download site, and
that had a large negative impact. I saw additional error messages around the
codec of ca0110 chip at one side and an unknown fprintf !!!?? module, while
the other hand the driver for my usb microphone (functioning very well), was
not loaded. I removed the alsa 1.021 asap. Unfortunately I am not (yet)
familiar with installing alpha versions of Ubuntu as
ppa:thefirstm/karmic-testing.
Please let me know if that is worthwhile to try. What is the difference with
the alsa-1.0.21 from alsa-development??

I am not active on the alsa-project development, but googling the site I
find that apparently still problems re- occurring with the CA0110 chip.
E,g. http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-
devel/2009-October/022130.html. Based on those mails, I have the
impression that the we have to wait till the development git (if the
driver is fixed) of alsa is incorporated into Ubuntu

The same AMD computer is a triple boot machine with Gentoo. Similar
problems are occurring with that linux version

2009-10-31 Thread m4lin
I have problems with my Xtreme Audio, too.
System: ubuntu 9.10 (64bit) upgraded from 9.04 and in Live-environment(9.10)
The card is recognized, but when I press play in any application, the counter
rests by 0:00 min and there is no sound.
As mentioned before, the problem exists also after booting the Live-CD.
