Same here. I get a transfer rate of about 8-10 MBPS. On 9.04, I used to get 25-30 MBPS. I have the following configuration: Karmic Kaola 64 bit. USB hardware is 2.0 on both the motherboard as well as external HDD. I am using 2.6.31-16 generic kernal. Haven't tested it with the previous versions, although, I do remember it being a bit faster in 2.6.31-14 kernal. same problem here... uses too much of CPU .. I have Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2GHZ 2 GiB RAM , but data transfers only at 5Mb/S External HDD : Western Digital 320 GB, Passport. I'm having the same problem. I had 9.04 installed. Everything worked fine. I wiped out 9.04 to have a clean install of 9.10 and when copying data back from the usb portable hard drive files will start at a good speed, and then when they are about 1/4 to 1/2 transferred, the transfer almost stops dead. After a few minutes of it being dead though, once tonight it did then pick back up to an acceptable speed. I've only seen that happen 1 time. I don't know what you guys are talking abt. I am using 32-bit 9.10 on intel dual core processor. Am getting good USB speeds.
