2013-02-19 Thread Chris Wilson
It sounds like the EDID was being incorrectly cached across reconnection
events. This definitely shouldn't happen on recent kernels, so please do
reconfirm the bug is still present.

2010-08-27 Thread Tim Holy
Bug #476357 shows related behavior, but is different in that an X
restart suffices to get the new monitor working.

[Bug 495063] Re: Karmic's xrandr doesn't update when connected to different external monitor

2010-06-04 Thread Tomi Hautakoski
Here a third person seeing this same behaviour. My default external
monitor is 1280x1024 and when a switch to use projectors and then come
back to the default monitor, I can only choose a max resolution of
1024x768. In the end, this means that I have to reboot to get my
external monitor to work again with the higher resolution.

If there's something I can log or test, please let me know.

2010-05-21 Thread Florent Mertens
I can confirm this bug in lucid with the same behavior.
I confirm also that restarting X doesnt trigger xrandr to re-poll for the new
monitor.

2010-04-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi macavity,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2010-04-12 Thread macavity
Hi, sorry I am not testing this issue with a Beta build at this time but
I'll give another try when Lucid is deemed ready by Ubuntu AND the
community agrees that it is ready. Last time I reported bugs against an
LTS version I was told to test a newer alpha version. I am really bad as
a resource for your QA because I am just an interested user desperate to
become productive on Ubuntu with relatively little bandwidth/interest to
get your platform working.

[Bug 495063] Re: Karmic's xrandr doesn't update when connected to different external monitor

2009-12-11 Thread macavity
I have some additional data about this bug.

Just restarting X doesn't trigger xrandr to re-poll for the new monitor.
I have to reboot before I can connect to a new external monitor.

I also found a ton of these lines in my /var/log/messages:

Nov 27 22:07:16 x200 kernel: [ 474.120523] i915 :00:02.0: VGA-1: no EDID
data
Nov 27 22:07:16 x200 kernel: [ 474.126200] i2c-adapter i2c-0: unable to read
EDID block.
Nov 27 22:07:16 x200 kernel: [ 474.126209] i915 :00:02.0: VGA-1: no EDID
data
Nov 27 22:07:16 x200 kernel: [ 474.324904] i2c-adapter i2c-2: unable to read
EDID block.

So could this be an issue with i915 or the i2c modules?
