2006-11-08 Thread Ian Gilfillan
Yes, I also have no internet connection - I only tried this once in
Dapper and got a whole lot of errors, one of which I think was the above
error. See https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-
meta/+bug/70240 for specifics of Edgy's slightly different behaviour.

2006-10-04 Thread Arjan
I think I know what is causing this problem: no internet connection or
more specific no open port to DNS. If the compu cannot resolve a DNS the
problems occur.

Can anyone confirm?

By the way I don't think the "The process for the system protocol died
unexpectedly" prblem should occur...

Just for the sake of clarity in my case I am not sure if the 'graphical
root' is causing this, although I did use:

kdesu kate .

every know and then.

[Bug 49950] Re: The error message: "The process for the system protocol died unexpectedly" triggers many problems, when logged in as graphical root in Kubuntu Dapper

2006-10-02 Thread Arjan
I am getting the same message and have similar problems.

I didn't have those problems in the beginning, but they started a week ago.
Prior to this problem I have worked on my firewall, installed clamav and
antivir. I am mentioning it because I don't know what other information to
provide and maybe other 'victims' did similar things.

Besides the message 'The process for the system protocol died
unexpectedly.', most notably Konqueror starts extremely slow (>3
minutes) and I have problem with launching the System Panel.

Any help is appreciated!

If somebody knows what information would be helpful I will provide it.

Kind regards,

Arjan

Do you still get these same problems even after all of the recent
updates to Dapper? Is this present at all in Edgy?

[Bug 49950] Re: The error message: "The process for the system protocol died unexpectedly" triggers many problems, when logged in as graphical root in Kubuntu Dapper

2006-06-16 Thread Ronelio Aloria
** Description changed:

It's been one week now since I last installed Kubuntu Dapper. I enabled the
root account following
the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo. Then I logged in as
graphical root. And then I found these bugs:

  1. Just as the splash screen was displaying "Restoring Session", I got
this error message: "The process for the system protocol died
unexpectedly". If you waited too long before you clicked "OK" on the
error window, the splash screen would finish anyway.

  2. Then I ran some apps. But interestingly those apps had no window
boundaries around them and the title bar was missing in each of them.
Hence I couldn't minimize, maximize, resize or drag the window. I terminated
each app through the Quit command in the menu bar. But
- for those without menu bar such as the System Settings window, there's no way
to close the app. In addition, some apps overlapped the
+ for those without menu bar such as the System Settings window, there's no way
to close the app. There was no icon for a running app on the taskbar. In
addition, some apps overlapped the
panel just like what System Settings, K3b and Kontact did.

  3. Konqueror won't run at all. Its loading icon was on the taskbar, then
disappeared and then nothing. I tried many times but it
  just won't run.

  4. The keyboard won't work.

This is actually the second time I enabled the root account in Kubuntu Dapper
in four installs. During the first one, I encountered
and reported bugs #48790 and #48793, which were all confirmed. I was still
using Gelex as my id then.

Anyway can you credit the karma points
I earned from confirmed bugs #48790 and #48793 to my new account to get me
fired up. Thank you.
