Subject: [Bug 502165] Re: system reboots during solitaire play

Hi Rich72,

Thank you for your response. When the system crashes, does it do a full
reboot (with the boot screen and screen to select which OS to use) or
does it just kick you back to the login screen? This will help pinpoint
the problem. Thanks in advance.

Now you're asking the possible but not the expedited info. I have no idea
of which you infer or the how one should go about getting it syndrome.
Instruct me and I will oblige.

In fact, could you please paste the output of running lspci -nn | grep
VGA in a terminal? This will tell us precise information about your
graphics card. This might be a duplicate of bug 444518.

Sorry about the bug spam.

[Bug 502165] Re: system reboots during solitaire play

2010-01-06 Thread David Tombs
Hi Rich, sorry for being unclear. To get the needed information:

1) Open a Terminal (Applications - Accessories - Terminal)
2) Run the command, lspci -nn | grep VGA. (With no quotes, of course.)
3) Highlight the output with the mouse, and you can copy it with Edit - Copy
in the terminal.
4) Paste it here!

That should be it. This will give very precise information about the
model of your graphics card. Thank you for your help!

I built this computer about 3years ago with an ASUS P5LD2-VM motherboard.
It also has a WD 250 mb HDD. I became interested in Kubuntu first and then
tried Ubuntu. Going to the website (Ubuntu) and downloading Karmic Koala I
was asked to install the OS within Windows or as a stand alone version. I
chose to install within Windows. I downloaded all the service files
associated with the install and would check every three days or so for more
updates. I admit that I really like the clean look and feel of the OS
and was learning where the nuts and bolts were kept. I am still a little
foggy on how to go about using Gnome commands to manually install programs.
As to your question Is this reproducible? All I can add is that at bootup,
I have a choice of either Windows or Ubuntu. When I choose Ubuntu it boots
quite nicely. After a bit of trying out the system, I play AisleRiot
Solitaire, Lady Jane. These last several sessions have experienced the same
result as I noted in my previous email. During play the OS would go to a
black screen and then to the login. I hope that this satisfies your query.

Thank you.
