I installed Ubuntu 9.10 from cd and the same usb port worked with the same usb stick and mediaplayer. I also noticed that my dvd burner was not found, I downloaded the Ubuntu image on this machine and could not burn it with k3b since the drive was not available. I haven't been using kde 4, but I used kde 3,5 and this drive was recognized and usable without any additional setup steps.
