The user's auto-repeat parameters are not restored. When using a USB capable KVM switch, this means that the user's auto- repeat parameters are gone when switching back to the machine. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xorg-x11-drv-evdev-2.2.1-3.fc11.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Change your auto-repeat settings. For example, increase the auto-repeat rate to something you would notice. 2. Disconnect your USB keyboard, then reconnect it. Alternatively, use a KVM switch to switch to another machine, then switch back. 3. Test the auto-repeat settings by pressing a key. Actual results: The keyboard is reset to the default auto-repeat parameters. Expected results: The user's auto-repeat parameters are actually set. Additional info: On F10, the user's auto-repeat parameters were restored, so this seems to be a regression in Rawhide. [Bug 505029] Re: Keyboard repeat rate is often reset
I'm using updated Lucid and still have the bug. Appears to be fixed in up-to-date lucid: unplugging and replugging the keyboard keeps the repeat rate the same. [Bug 505029] Re: Keyboard repeat rate is often reset
I have this exact problem as well. Every time the usb keyboard is unplugged the delay rate is reset. Touching the delay slider in the keyboard preferences dialog. Unfortunately adding xset to rc.local isn't quite the right solution since that doesn't run when the keyboard is plugged in. In searching for answers I came across: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=499958 Apparently the fault is in gnome-settings-daemon and has been fixed in gnome-settings-daemon-2.28.1-13 but that's not out for karmic. However, someone commented in that post that if you toggle the num lock key (a quick double tap), the auto repeat settings are restored. That's good enough for me to live with. ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #499958 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=499958 -- Keyboard repeat rate is often reset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505029 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 505029] Re: Keyboard repeat rate is often reset
I experience this daily -- which means exactly once per day: Every morning when I arrive, the keyboard repeat rate has been reset. I set it again by opening System Preferences Keyboard, sliding the Repeat Keys/Speed slider a little and back again and closing. I have tried using the kdbrate program, which says it does something (Typematic Rate set to 10,9 cps (delay = 250 ms)) but it makes no difference to the keyboard. Hardware: Dell Precision T3400 with a Dell wired keyboard, connected via USB through the monitor. Based on the previous comments to this bug report, I made a few tests, and conclude that the problem is triggered whenever I turn off the monitor. This is completely consistent with the fact that I see the problem every morning and not otherwise. The computer is running during the night because I need to access it remotedly. It is not suspended, hibernated or such. So although I now know how to work around the issue, would it be possible to reinitialize the keyboard (tell it about the desired repeat rate) whenever it is powered up? -- Keyboard repeat rate is often reset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505029 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 505029] Re: Keyboard repeat rate is often reset
As a workaround you can add xset r rate 200 60 to /etc/rc.local before the exit 0 command. Google etc rc.local for more information. 200 is the delay and 60 is the repeat rate in milliseconds. (My settings). I think it problem should disappear if you connect your keyboard directly to the computer, if that is possible for you. -- Keyboard repeat rate is often reset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505029 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 505029] Re: Keyboard repeat rate is often reset
I think it problem should disappear if you connect your keyboard directly to the computer, if that is possible for you. I am running my laptop with a directly attached keyboard. It shows the same effect. rc.local will not be executed, when the computer comes up from suspend I guess. Additionally, external keyboards for laptops are plugged in while the computer is running. -- Keyboard repeat rate is often reset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505029 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 505029] Re: Keyboard repeat rate is often reset
I can reproduce this: 1) Boot laptop with usb keyboard attached 2) Modify key repeat rates and delays to your preference using GUI 3) Unplug keyboard and replug keyboard On both my laptops running Karmic, the delay and repeat are reset. Interestingly, the bars in the GUI are not reset, but their effect is. This also happens if I control the rate and delay using xset: 1) Boot laptop with usb keyboard 2) Do $ xset r rate 200 60 3) Unplug and replug keyboard The same happens. I guess the GUI is controlling xset then. So the problem lies with xset. Hope someone picks up on this! [Bug 505029] Re: Keyboard repeat rate is often reset
I can reproduce it on my Lenovo T500 with 9.10 with an Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 USB (wired). Remove external USB keyboard, suspend notebook, wake it up again, plug in external keyboard, and test repeat rate. It is slow again. Internal keyboard is still fast and like set. Open Preferences Keyboard and touch Delay setting, even put it back to the setting you found when opening the preferences. The external keyboard repeat rate is fast now too. This happens to me every day when going to the office. The repeat rate is reset to slow.
