I was trying and xfs partition. andi5 says that he had the same
problem and that it was b/c of the XFS filesystem.  Apparently his
worked with a jfs install.  I installed using text mode and got it up
and running.  The screen went blank for a bit but ipressed enter after
the HDD indicator stopped and it rebooted and now I am in.  Thanks for
your help
