I should probably open a new bug for this, but I'll mention it here for the record: the onboard.desktop file should also be marked for translation. In any case, I think the part that will take more work is to rename the files to .desktop.in and make sure a) translations are extracted and b) the .desktop files are build. This will probably need to be done somewhere in debian'/rules.
