[Bug 543045] Re: [RV530] screen flickers in lucid lynx [Needs pll quirk]

2013-09-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mckeimic, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder,
but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel,
please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is
fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

Hi Christopher,
If I remember correctly I got in touch with a kernel/X developer who
pointed me in direction of a newer kernel. This fixed the flickering
(which was really annoying).
I am now on 12.04 and the flickering is gone. I'm not sure if you can
mark this bug as corrected, but it was fixed in a newer kernel.

I cannot find the answer email and it's been an ubuntu upgrade since
then, so can't give you much help with which kernel I used (it was
something with 999 in it, but that is close to what I remember)

Thanks for following up.

Trond

Hello, I'm afraid I reported this in high school and have since changed

kernel, though I can verify when I return home in a week or so.

2011-03-14 Thread briga
I had the same issue but I would like to add more details.

Running Natty from Alpha 3 on a RV530 (radeon X1600).

With no kernel options
grub is 4 char offset on the left
boot logo (ubuntu) is half off on the right (as if the monitor was half size
 of video)
 gdm perfect
as soon as I login flickers to black for 1 sec every 15 seconds
unity loads but doesn't work well (transparencies, missing icon, they appear
only when rollover with the mouse)

Booting with nomodeset
grub is 4 char offset on the left
boot logo is low res but OK
 gdm perfect
no flickering but no compiz no unity, only classic desktop (gnome)

Booting with radeon.new_pll=0
grub is 4 char offset on the left
boot logo is low back to half off the screen
 gdm perfect
no flickering but no compiz no unity, only classic desktop (gnome), as in
 nomodeset

I hope it helps.

My screen is also flickering every few seconds, also outside X, in terminal.
I have Ubuntu 10.10 x64 with ATI Radeon X1300 [RV515].
Adding radeon.new_pll=0 to the kernel command line did not solve the issue for
me.

Then i installed and booted the kernel from here

And it worked! No more flickering here. However driver is still not fully
functional, no desktop effects with compiz.

[Bug 543045] Re: [RV530] screen flickers in lucid lynx [Needs pll quirk]

2010-10-06 Thread braikar
I have the same problem with an Nvidia graphic card.

At first I thought it was due to a dodgy update, I have 9.10 installed. So I
tried to reinstall 10.04 to fix it... Just booting on the live CD I have the
same strange flickering...
On 9.10 changing the graphic drivers or resetting xorg.conf changed nothing,
that problem started appearing some 2 months ago after an update, unfortunately
I didn't mark down which update, because I thought it would get fixed quickly
in the following updates...

Just booting the live CD for 10.04 x64 and I have that flickering that is
really annoying. I like ubuntu, but with that constant problem I'll have no
choice but to switch to some other dist. or windows...
That's how it looks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3nnLv0cubU
I cannot record it with gtkrecordmydesktop or anything like that because when
doing that it shows no flickering at all on the recorded video.

I have a Nforce680 chipset, geforce8600GT (DVI output).

Is there any option like radeon.new_pll=0 but for nvidia graphic cards?

2010-06-08 Thread Jean-Jacques Finazzi
Adding radeon.new_pll=0 to the kernel command line solved the issue for
me.

So I added this (radeon.new_pll=0) for the GRUB bootloader. It's in the
/etc/default/grub file in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT parameter (now
it is: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash radeon.new_pll=0).

Laptop: ASUS Z53J series, MODEL=Z53J, MB ver.=F3JP, embedded VGA card=Radeon
Mobility X1700.
Ubuntu flavour: KUbuntu.
No problem with Karmic Koala, the problem appeared after an upgrade to Lucid
Lynx. Moreover, it appears after a fresh install of Lucid Lynx or while usind
the Live-CD.
Problem: the screen flickers after the boot splash screen or just after login
in and moving the mouse (apparently). The screen is unreadable.

Result of lspci -v (for the VGA part) :
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M66-P [Mobility Radeon
X1700]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 1242
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 29

I/O ports at b000 [size=256]
Memory at fdff (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Expansion ROM at fdfc [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: access denied
Kernel driver in use: radeon
Kernel modules: radeon

Should I file a new bug report for more details ?

2010-04-15 Thread James Pursey
I confirm. Had the same horizontal flickering when I installed Beta 2 on
my laptop this morning. The problem disappeared after I updated the
system and rebooted.
